Mrs apex wanted to try the herb one day. Tried a vape cart, said it did nothing. Waited a bit and she chomped one of my edibles.

She was monged and whinged more than ever complaining about “dry mouth” while I found this relatable and hilarious she was scared shitless and was up all night lapping water from the bathroom tap like a fucking cat 😬😂

Edibles for a newbie is not a good idea you would be better seeing if you can get some RSO that way you can put a little bit on a piece of chocolate for her to try it and if she likes it you can then up the amount taken,last thing you want is her having a whitey on edibles the first time she tries it.

As long as its a low dosage, like 5-10mg. So even if you got something at 50, just cut a small piece off. Problem is, when it comes to edibles, vendors have a habit of making them strong, people generally want to get monged. There's a few amazing edible vendors here though that will inevitably pop up, can't recommend any though, edibles aren't my thing.

I think its more complicated than people think

If i vape Animal Mints or Obama Runtz at 180c I get sativa effects. If it vape Gorilla Glue 12 at 230c I will get indica effects. Yes smoking brings out the expected effects but the fact I can tweak the effects via temp makes me think its not as easy as indica/sativa

Furthermore, some sativas like Acapulco Gold or J1 are like a cup of coffee in the morning. Legit clear headed energy. Something like the Pink Lady is a sativa but it is more chilled. I think terpenes have a very big part to play in it. Maybe the kush terp has indica effects and that's why despite being a sativa, the Pink Lady doesn't hit like the J1 for example. I'm rambling a bit here but I hope you all get what I mean

I spent close to a year living in Amsterdam. With exceptional quality buds, you can expect to receive the typical couch lock and sedation with a good Indica and a buzzy euphoric racing high with a solid Sativa.
Dr Grinspoon at Katsu coffeeshop was a pure Sativa, it was like drinking a double espresso, no ceiling to the high, it didn't roll over, one for the morning...

Apparently some Sativa's can work the opposite on some people, and can couch lock them. Amnesia Haze is a particular potent strain, whilst it's a sativa, it can deck you.

Perhaps check Leafly or Wikileaf for further advice on certain strains.

There's a difference for me, stick to indica strains as sativa always seems to make the heart race and the anxiety then comes on and spoils the high. Maybe all in my head but happens everytime.

I'll still smoke them tho, because I'm an addict haha

I think this is it, I’ve smoked for 20 years but didn’t notice the difference until really started to pay attention and start to use for medical rather than recreational reasons there is 0 doubt in my mind there is a very easily notiible difference. It’s natures way so everyone can be helped by this wonderful medicine, Sativa to speed things up, indica to slow things down. No one will convince me otherwise on this I’m certain if I was given a heavy sativa dom and n indica I’d know the difference within a few tokes

in my experience the terpenes play a way more important role when it comes to the overall effects and experience of each strain, i've had sativa's that couchlock and indica's that are uplifting and energetic which are the opposite of their supposed effects

For me, I believe it to be true to a certain extent. I find with sativa heavy strains I feel a buzz in my head and it's above my ears. With indica heavy it's below my ears and I'm definitely more lazy. It's not a massive difference for me though. My mind tends to wander and think about more random bollocks with a sativa too. Who knows maybe it's all in the mind. All this energetic stuff I see is pure bullshit for me though. If I'm high, not much is getting done.

There are many factors that contribute to an overall feeling. I wouldn’t say Sativa/Indica is the dominating answer. That’s like saying my only expression is sad or happy... However, things get a bit more technical when you dig into it. Being able to simply explain an estimate sensation to buyers in percentage i20s80 is hugely beneficial. It helps people learn about what they’re buying, that’s not a bad thing

Seems the terpenes have a part to play, In the effect of cannabis aswell. not to mention that it seems a good %90 of strains are hybrid, you have an Interesting take non-the-less.

In my basic opinion:

Sativa = High
Indica = Stoned

It’s all about harvest times. If you let the sativas trichromes go amber, then you might get a couch lock. Similarly if you harvest your indica when the trichromes are clear, then you might feel creative and focused;)

Seems to depend on people’s chemistry. I cannot take Sativa or hybrid strains any more. Make me paranoid and awful circular thoughts and insomnia. Indica Im easy like a Sontag morgen. I grew up with hash in the 90’s whi I think must have been mainly indica and I used to love smoking. When skunk came along it was hit and miss and paranoia used to be more frequent. Thanks to Lb I’ve been able to buy what suits me both in terms of hash and weed. Got some lovelY Northern Lights and Hindu Kush and Fanta hash which are right up my strasse.

So, I lived in Seattle for nearly 10 years and smoked on the daily and there wasn't any drastic difference in the effects of the many different strains on the go except for this one time that will forever stick with me. I had been smoking a typical kush number with dense nugs for most of the day before heading out to a place for hot wings with my mate. Dude pulls out a very straggly and wispy looking bud from Oregon, puts it into a bowl and we fire it up. Not a minute or two later that shit came on strong and cut through the Kush fog like a hot knife through butter. A rush of high energy blasted away the previous hours of smoking and we ended up high as fuck giggling like lunatics over hot wings. That's the day I realised that a real 100% sativa does exist and it's a fucking blast.

This is without a doubt important to me, after years of trial and error, I've discovered my ideal is a hybrid around 80 indica and 20 sativa, so pretty much something like a og kush or something, I've found a more sativa dominant strain will mess with my head, I get hyperactive and often get headaches, I can instantly tell if the weed isn't right for me, I think it depends upon you, personally I smoke for pain relief and mainly to switch off, I like the real stoned feeling you get from indica, it's like a warm blanket for your brain, I do have a very active mind so this suits me, of course each strain and type affects us in different ways, I can't say I've really every enjoyed sativa dominant strains but when I have smoke it I find it goes really quickly as it doesn't hit the spot, I'd say I'd be active with sativa as a rule if I had to smoke it .....

What tests were conducted to determine whether a plant is indica or sativa?

It usually is one person who bred the strain, will smoke it and say this makes me feel couchlock or uplifting and then give it an approximate rating.

Since the rec market came into play all strains provide all effects you may desire from the plant.

Personally regardless of the weed is indica or sativa its the terp profile like for couch lock it would have to contain a good amount of mycrene to get this effect other terp profiles do different things I would imagine if it was indica or sativa and didnt have enough of the terp profile in either of them for what ur desired effect I dont think it's down sativa or indica more of what terp profile that weed carrys

There's definitely a difference in high between cultivars with the tropical 'Sativas ' generally being more energetic and psychoactive but now that everything is a hybrid , these classifications don't make a lot of sense anymore.
Also , those indica/sativa percentages are completely made up.

I too have about 20 years experience smoking different strains, including solids. I normally smoke 'bud' though.

The last solid i smoked had hardly any effect on me at all - it used to make me really 'horni', 20 years ago.

However, i do notice a difference between Indicas and Sativas. I do a physical job and an Indica strain does take the aches & pains of old age away, for me personally.

I think this is a really interesting topic.

I'd probably agree with this.

But if this was 100% the case, then why would so many people (myself included) claim to feel different effects with indica strains vs sativa?

One option is placebo - obviously a very powerful mechanism and I'd like to see blind trials about this.

My current theory which I've been thinking about a lot recently is that it's due to terpenes - as they are widely believed to mediate the effects of cannabis, is it possible that some are more prevalent in indica strains and others are more prevalent in sativa strains?

Obviously exploring the entourage effect and terpenes in cannabis, and even research involving cannabis in general, is a relatively new field so I'm excited to see what we find out in the next decade and beyond.

The interaction between terpene levels and cannabinoids is most likely the explanation for the perceived differences between indica and sativa.

A lot of sativas have little to no cbd, cdb affects the way thc acts, a lot of sativas have lemon, orange or citrus terps which seem to be the more uplifting and eurphoric terps, so sativas having an uplifting effects but being more likely to induce anxiety makes sense given terp and cannabinoid profiles.

Yep, that example with sativa strains often being limonene dominant is what I'd noticed to get me thinking about this.

It's funny though because indica dom strains can make me para which is contradictory to the typical assumption that sativa = anxiety. Obviously everyone is different and will see different effects but it would be nice to know about contributing factors.

We really need to see more research on this; it's honestly surprising that it's so under researched as the medical applications (esp for mental health) really demand understanding of these issues.

I don’t know really. A lot of it is down to the grower and how good they are. That has the most influence on affect for me.

Been smoking 20 years and I have always seeked out indicas as I preferred the couch lock but I have recently been trying to try a few sativas to try and get more of a creative high. found nothing yet, any suggestions on a strain if not just looking for a sativa?

I generally dislike pure sativas and hazes, but super silver haze is the exception for me, I've really enjoyed that many times worth considering have seen some listed on here

Jesus. This has hit me really hard. I’ve been smoking weed for 30 years. 11 weeks ago I had a huge (tennis ball sized) lump pop out of my neck. Dr diagnosed me as having an infection of the parotid gland (saliva gland). Antibiotics for a week, lump hung around for a month.

Had an ultrasound scan 3 weeks ago, turns out it’s a tumour 😞 Stopped smoking that day. 30 years crashed down on me during that one 15 min appointment.

Was immediately put in the NHS suspect cancer 2 week pathway. Had an FNA (biopsy) and an MRI scan 2 weeks ago. Here I am, awaiting the news. Avoided googling the shit outta this, then stumble across this post. Blown me away a bit. I mean, we all know smoking isn’t big or clever, but this has been the biggest wake up call of my life, obviously.

I am part of a very reputable profession, married for 25 years, 4 kids. The works. Here I am, absolutely petrified waiting on a phone call.

Long story sorry. Thought I’d share tho.

We believe it's the smoking that is the problem..you cannot get away from the dangers! But working with cannabis oil doesn't yield the unwanted effects and works as the plant intended. Is the tumour in your parotid gland?
I had one in 2006. Turned out to be a pleomorphic adenoma- the most common kind. Thankfully it is benign and was out and touch wood I’m all good except I have a scar that makes me look like I was a ruffian in my younger years

They mentioned the possibility of a common type, that would need removing even if benign. I didn’t take in the name tho. Like I touched on, I’m (usually!) a rational person, but I haven’t googled anything about this. My wife has tho, a lot, she works within the NHS and has spoken to people in this field. We have an unspoken understanding atm and not really discussing it at all. Her mum passed away very young with a cancer in her neck, I know she’s in bits about this. This is breaking me inside.

It’s a weird limbo we’re in, just waiting for the test results. Should be this week by the looks. My gp phoned me Thursday just gone and explained who is looking at it and where, and the process of diagnosis.

The thought of facial surgery scares the bejesus outta me, but the thought of it not being malignant makes it more bearable.

I pray to god/ the universe you do have the benign type.

So I have smoked weed with tobacco for these 30 years. Smoked cigarettes in the 90s, early 00s, then rolling tobacco. Never a ‘heavy’ fag smoker really, but a heavy joint smoker through (weed and tobacco). Bought a mighty vape last year in an effort to kick my combustion habbit. Used it twice as I really didn’t get in with it. Not smoked anything since my scan that confirmed a tumour, 4 weeks ago. Never found quitting so easy. Currently enjoying the benefits of not having a dependency of any sorts for the first time in my adult life. Felling a better dad and husband for it tbh.

Used a lot of chemicals in those 90s/00s years and have had an ‘unhealthy’ relationship with alcohol since covid, which I have got on top of over the last 9 months.

Just to add to all the brilliant advice here; alcohol has been found to be considerably carciogenic if you can abstain it will massively help. Avoiding anything processed or containg high amounts of sugar will encourage better health and if you subscribe to the school of thought that suggests cancer cells thrive on glucose it may even help with reducing or preventing cancerous growth.

Mate, sending you all the best for good news. My friend just went through this and is out the other side after having it removed. Was scary for her waiting on the results, and then getting the face surgery. But she's all good now and has a sick scar to show for it. Sending all my best thoughts your way.

I know so many people already preach and I don't just wanna be another one, but dry herb vapes truly are a great way to consume. Bud lasts longer, tastes better AND you get avb to use in edibles at the end! I'll still be bongin' and spliffin' it up but it's great to have so many options nowadays

No doubt dry herb vaping is almost certainly way better in terms of health risks than smoking (I also do it as well as edibles). On the other hand, the research on the health risks for dry herb vaping is still extremely limited. Inhaling hot particulates (which still happens with vaping) tends to be no bueno for health.

Very true. We're still kind of in the infancy of cannabis research. We know the long term effects of cigarettes and alcohol but, with the legality of weed over the years, we've still got so many unanswered questions about it. And dry herb vapes really haven't been around that long either. I just hope that we get some conclusive answers in our lifetimes...

I think carts are going to prove a massive roadblock for cannabis development and freedom because of growing health concerns. WithTHCA, D8 & D10 workarounds these are available all across N.America now and the demand is huge with consumers able to puff through 1ml carts or more every single day. Chemical contamination is rife. These things ARE addictive. California is reporting rapidly increasing needs for specialist pulmonary treatments amongst all ages and new clinics are opening rapidly.
Its just the tip of the iceberg...

As much as I want to believe that the convenience and discretion of carts is a positive thing, sadly you're 100% spot on. People doing blinkers and landing themselves in hospital isn't an uncommon occurrence in the US, I think seby G (weedtuber) had an incident like that. People going through a gram of 90%+ THC distillate in a day is just insane on so many levels. And as far as contaminants, I 100% believe there's more contaminated carts in the world than legit ones. By a big margin. From pesticides and vitamin E acetate all the way up to spice-laden disposables now prevalent across the UK. It's really a worrying trend and the demand for carts is going up by the day.....

I also wonder if a large part of the emergence of cannabis hyperemesis syndrome as a thing can be linked to heavy usage of carts and concentrates. I suspect it's usually It's hard to get sufficient THC to cause those symptoms from plain old bud.

I wouldn't be surprised at all tbh, 900mg of pure THC every single day cannot be a good thing. Plus there's no entourage effect with disty carts, which is good for some but I personally think the other terps and cannabinoids are what "makes" a high. Even so, rosin/live resin carts must still have 70%+ THC a lot of the time. Overconsumption is the worst thing anyone can do with weed imo, stay within your limits and enjoy it! Don't just get to an 11/10 high all day every day

Pretty much, yeah, but I go through phases. I'll definitely go through more bud when vaping compared to bongs but joints not so much. The vape high is more enjoyable though in my opinion

Vaping flowers is deffo my fave way, I just find I go through it a bit!

I read recently that when we vape flowers the high effect dissipates faster then when you smoke it but you get a stronger thc high then you would smoking.

I was going so say mimosa, no matter how good it is, those orange terps remind me of burning rubber. Strange.

So glad I’m not alone in hating mimosa terps. The first time I smelled/tasted it, I genuinely thought the weed was bogus. Like it had been artificially flavoured with something nasty. Then when I got good mimosa it was the exact same terps. Not for me like.

I’d say Stardawg too, just because it was fuckin everywhere and was normally sub par.

I like Mimosa for the effect and I don't mind the taste. I am not keen on some of the other strains that taste similar like Tangerine Dream so I can see where you're coming from. Citrus strains can be hit and miss on the terps front.

I think Mimosa is the only strain taste wise that lives up to the hype. 90% of weed tastes to me exactly what it is- heated vegetation. All the “mouth watering “ descriptions completely pass me by…occasionally I get pine bathroom cleaner but heyho…

Bang on, I’m not into any tangey variants either. I accidentally bought some expensive import bud a few weeks ago that had tangey/mimosa heritage. The bud was clearly excellent in every department, probably well worth the money, but the terps ruined it for me. Just tasted artificial, almost like a nicotine vape or something. Different strokes and all that.

White Widow

Stuff gives me the shakes and heart palpitations. Had it from different growers at different times, it just disagrees with me.
The Brazilian sativa element is too racy and the Indian indica just melts you. It’s always an intense Indica v Sativa battle.
Usually with hybrids I get the sativa effect then it chills into indica but white widow pummels me with both from the get go and leaves me meditating to the ganja gods with tai chi breathing to alleviate me from the poisonous kiss of White Widow.

I use to get that from ammi I'm already a anxious smoker and amnesia haze was a horrible experience especially cause it was actually decent bud

Lemon Tree is the strain I most dislike. I use to love a good lemon skunk or lemon haze 20 years ago. Not the same anymore.

Super silver haze. Smelled like cats piss and had no body high. Muscles felt restless and uncomfortable.

All 'Haze' are sativa dominant aren't they, so yeah, you get the head high but no body chill. I know what you mean about muscles feeling that way - I get achey neck/shoulders and back and no body chill, and that's with various hybrids.

Stardawg is like the equivalent of Lambert and butler smokes.

Everest is another, it's not that I dislike the taste/high etc, but I find if I'm on it for multiple days then it really brings my mood down.

Cookiedawg. Overpowering terps with low potency literally came to little biggy because all i could get was dawg variants round my area.

Shame on all of you for the Mimosa hate ! lol

Haha I fully agree with cookiedawg - one of the most vile tasting strains I've had lol, the terps just don't mix well together.

I also hated 24k Gold - it just made me feel sick the 2 separate times I had that strain.

I got four, and they're all because of the terrible taste -

Top two, because I can't stand ones with a pine taste. Second two, because they taste like smoking candle wax

Never been fussed on Zkittles or Dosido either - usually because they're not grow well

I've not tried the Tropicana strains, but I do agree about the Tangies as I don't get on with the taste of them either.

Tropicana strains when grown well are top tier however in my experience they seem to be hard strains to get right, I’ve probably tried 10-15 different versions of Tropicana cookie/cherry/banana and only 2 of them were really good (but I mean really good) a few of them were alright (nothing to write home about) and the rest were pretty awful with almost no terps and black ash.

I get a vibe from some strains, mainly I’d describe more indica leaning and berry types.

Makes me introspective. Can get dark. But it’s also when you swim in the creative madness of semi-subconscious which when young, or in the wrong place can be no different than a mushroom experience.

Set and setting applies with *all* consumption I think 🤔 but I have a theory that plants also pick up on the vibe of their grower + there is also just a 💩 grow, right?

anything purple for me, i have no idea why and its sad because it looks so pretty but it doesn't agree with me.

Purple weed seems to have a Mushroomy taste to it as well and not really in a good way

i along with alot of people i know dont like how gelato tastes but it always hits you like mad, its usually good when crossed i had gelonade recently n that was great, also had silver haze once and i thought it tasted like having coins in your mouth :(

Orange Cookies in the dam 🤮 was awful smelled like old people and tasted like burnt rubber. really didnt enjoy it. Threw it in the bin the moment i left the shop.

lemon haze; for some reason can always smell it before i can see it and it makes me instantly dizzy - icl it smells divine sometimes, but i just can't do it lol

I had a prescription for pink kush and sour tangie. Sour tangie provides good effects but smells like sick. Same goes for Sour D too

My latest is mimosa. Smells like baby sick.

Had some sativa dominant bit a few weeks back that was a grapefruit cross of some kind. Jeez, it was awful.

Another one I don’t like is Gelato.
It’s a palate thing and we’re all different ay.

Number one: stardawg. And all the crosses. People seem to love it, I don't.
Number two: Gorilla glue. It's strong, yeah, but seemingly at the expense of everything else. I've had nice glue crosses though.
Number three: lemon haze. This one's slightly unfair but for ages it's all anyone grew around here so I just don't care if I never see another bag of lemon in my life.
The other one worthy of note is the thin mint. I don't know what they were thinking there.

Anyway, that's me. Other people are different.

Gorilla Glue is like Russian roulette with 5 Chambers loaded.
At it's best, it is hard to better. I have had some good tasting examples but they are becoming rarer.
The genetics are laden with problems so it is difficult to get the correct pheno from seed. But if you have the correct clone (as is the case with chemdawg) and it is grown and cured adequately, it is a very nice smoke imo.
