How did we let the government impose an inheritance con tax, on our loved ones already taxed belongings.

I feel that inheritance tax is a good thing, however, it should not go to the treasury, but instead to the local authority. In this way it benefits the community they were a part of, rather than a meaningless black hole of untraceable generic funding, that is as likely to be spent on Boris Johnsons security guards as it is something actually worthwhile. I feel the same about funds of closed companies automatically going to the treasury. It should be used locally where they need the money.

Because if you don't the entire wealth of the country would be in the hands of a tiny group of people living on inherited wealth and enjoying the benefits of rent and compound interest. I will lose a reasonable sum to inheritance tax on my death and although it's annoying I also recognise that it's unavoidable if we are going to have a society with any degree of equity or hope for 95% of people. Compound interest over 100s of years creates massive fortunes often in terms of land and property these are finite resources. You can also gift huge amounts to your children before you die, if you get rid ten years before you pop your clogs IHT doesn't get it.

The infrastructure of the country is what has allowed an individual to accumulate the wealth. If someone is so greedy that they think it is preposterous to pay inheritance tax they are free to live elsewhere. The problem of the ultra-wealthy finding ways around paying any taxes at all is another issue of course. And yes the country is still mired in feudalism hence the landed gentry still being around and anachronisms such as hereditary peers sitting in the house of lords.

My understanding is that there's a service called apple play or similar.
It's a subscription which is lame, but for a small cost you get access to a large number of games. The real boon of this service is that none of the games have predatory or manipulative cash shops.

I was trying to keep my daily weed consumption a secret from my 15 year old. In the end when we had a convo about it, turns out they've been doing it for months, knows a few dealers (some at school) and knows about different strains etc.
At first I felt really guilty thinking that despite not sharing the info, my smoking (always away from the house) was a bad influence. In the end I think it was a good thing as we could talk about it openly (not inc my wife!). I was able to give advice to always choose company and location carefully and warnings about Spice, Flacca and other dangerous drugs and have built trust between us. I hear about what is being smoked, and local events (sadly a murder a few moths ago related to small time dealers known to my teenager). I also warn about locations to avoid (local Mc Donalds seems to be a hotbed!). I also advised (when asked) about psychedelics (which I've had decades ago) how it's not necessarily a party/fun experience and achieved an understanding of the real dangers of alcohol and severely bad ones like crack, coke, heroin etc. I feel it's been positive overall but I still refuse to buy for my teenager as that would be risky domestically (due to wife's disaproval). and feels like a step to far at least atm

wow, I've been smoking every day for at least the last 16 years so yes, I guess I'm addicted ('you don't say' I hear you say!), been that way for decades but actually don't smoke much.
I get through about 3.5g of weed every 4 weeks which works out about £1 per day, I can justify it to myself as I hardly drink at all and was spending more than that when I was a more regular drinker

As I say,you don't have teenage offspring,do you? My 13 year old daughter can go through a Parental control faster than I can set them and yes, when it comes to tech,teenagers are little adults and have a far better understanding of tech than older age groups.

You can use a mix of 3 browsers to get around parental controls put direct onto phones/laptops. Your best setting restrictions via the router with the IP log in
A VPN is an easy way around any router blocked sites. Most teenagers could figure that out in my opinion.
It’s just that’s it’s illegal makes the whole thing seedy and shady, it’s absolute nonsense, ridiculously making it legal would actually make it harder for minors to get, but the powers that be are morons as we know. Properly original vision these artists have. Ballan/Lynch/Diane Arbus - I could give a shit about the allegations. They are just that.
You can’t make great art without breaking a few sensibilities, frankly, and I’m glad they are back in the game.
Watch the doc and make up your own mind about them. One of the most original punk rock acts in the last 15 years. That’s pretty hard to deny. Even if you are an Xtard, social media sheep, who just gets worked up over any old bullshit they read.
They comport themselves with real dignity and honesty in this documentary and I’m looking forward to their London show.

sometimes just explaining a problem out loud leads you to the answer. i find that bots get me to that place fast and usually give me an answer that is useful. this goes for anything but it seems especially good for exploring feelings i can't understand.

Looking to start reading Banks but daunted. Any biggaz have a suggestion?
Use of Weapons was my first foray into Iain M Banks but I haven't read it since about 30 years ago but I still remember it was fantastic and would recommend. It is unusual as it is two narratives separated by chapters, one going forward and one going backwards in time. Up to then I hadn't read anything with such an interesting style.
I think it is the third book in the Culture Series but I don't think it matters reading it out of sequence (From memory the books are set in that universe but most of them - I think! - don't have to be read in a particular order ie stand alone books, different plots, characters, etc.)
Just don't read too many reviews, etc. about Use of Weapons as spoilers could easily be given away.
I like a good majority of his non sci fi books under the name Iain Banks, too. Wasp Factory and Complicity both excellent.

I'm a hoarder and had a good majority of his books for years. Had a blowout a few months ago and got rid of a load of books, including his as not read them for years. Theory being out of sight, out of mind. All I want to now do is read his books. And I do mean "proper" paper books. Paid tuppence for them originally, now paperbacks are about a million pounds. (Maybe a slight exaggeration there!)

Don’t want to name and shame just yet but here’s what’s happened, I mailed a vendor as I was after a genuine Packman vape to take to Glastonbury this year but had read that they are quite often copied and/or refilled with distillate or whatever then sold on, this concerned me as obviously wanted the genuine thing.
After telling the vendor this I was assured that they were genuine vapes and that I could check the qr code on the box to be certain, because of this I placed an order and a few days later received the vape which looked good however when I checked the qr code on the official website it stated that this code had already been used so was not valid, this obviously raised my concerns a lot, I messaged the vendor expressing my concerns and they appeared to be very helpful, admitting that it wasn’t acceptable and agreed to send me a replacement the following week, was happy with this, I wasn’t keen on trying the original one due to the fact I was convinced it was a copy, anyway, over a week later I received a replacement vape, first thing I did was check the code and to my joy it said that it was genuine, happy days, or so I thought, however upon opening the box it came in I discovered that the package the vape comes in had been opened (should be sealed) and also that the mouthpiece stopper had was nowhere to be seen so essentially I have been sent a vape which somebody has opened and had a go on!
I find the fact I have been sent a used vape completely bizarre and totally unacceptable! So I now have 2 of these vapes, neither of which I’m convinced is genuine and one of which some random has been toking on already!
When I pulled the vendor up on this he tried making out that I should be grateful that I’ve been sent 2, but I don’t even want to use either of them now because of this. So I’m now £60 down with no useable vape, I’m not after any freebies at all or trying to blag anything, just feel really put out and let down, the vendor has basically said that we’re now both out of pocket and we should go our separate ways and didn’t really seem to think it was a big deal I’d sent one that’s already been opened and used!
I’m aware that no good will probably come of this now but just wanted to get the views of other LB members to see how they would react and if I’m being fussy or if the vendor is completely taking the piss!

So as the world moves on to the latest set of consoles I'm wondering what the biggas think where the best games of the last gen? what are your must plays? did you find any hidden gems? found a good game to play with a spliff in hand? :P
There'll probably be some decent bargains on the way for those games you haven't got round to yet. I'm by no means a hardcore gamer but look forward to taking some recommendations! :)

GTA has to be one of the best games to play when your smashed without a doubt, I could just drive my car round for days when I'm stoned haha

Smash bros, Mario kart and zelda breath of the wild on the switch. Recently finished god of war and enjoyed that, the first spiderman was good but found the miles morales to be rushed and a glorified dlc.

I recently re discovered the world of Sony PlayStation having been xboxing for years. Got a PS4 on the cheap about 8 months before ps5 came out. Playing their exclusives I have to say some of them are the best, in my opinion of last gen. So my list starts with last of us, last of us 2,any Nathan drake game, horizon dawn. Then you got to have GTA5 and RdDR2. Gems for me are things like little nightmares, hotline Miami 1 & 2. The Res Evil 2 remake was awesome. And my fav game of recent times that has matured like a fine wine, is Days Gone. In case you wondered, I love a zombie apocalypse game….goes well with a spliff or 2. Showing my age now perhaps but I burnt out on 1st person shooters a long time ago. I remember playing half life, unreal tournament and the like, playing the first few CODS and Medal of Honours. These games really haven’t changed that much over the years except with better graphics etc, but maybe that can be said of most genres. At one point first person shooters would be all I played so maybe that is why I rarely play them these daysrecent first person shooter games I enjoyed though are alien isolation and Wolfenstein for a quick blast of ultra violence

I'm 46 now and didn't play games much when I was younger but we all used to play Mario Kart on the cartridge console in all sorts of twisted states and used to have a total blast. Recently discovered PUBG on the IPad and am kind of hooked. It's so much fun and you end up doing stupid dances and stuff yet highly skillful also. Skydive in with your mates and let the mayhem commence.
Some of those old school games were the best for playing with a bunch of mates, some other good examples outside of mario kart. How about micro machines, does anyone remember speed ball…..back in the day the original tekken on PS got played a lot in my group, any of the old worms games, v good for taking turns, passing the blunt….

If your looking for a multiplayer FPS i highly recommend r6. I play on PC but has alot of console players aswell only game which gets the adrenaline proper pumping for me. High skill gap alot to learn generally fun solo even better with a coordinated stack of friends. edit: Might not be the best game when stoned but it is for me i know a few of my mates who cant play it to well stoned but for me it locks me in even more

I seem to have a problem loading Eddyshashbar, it takes ages to load, if at all, and when it does it is mostly none responsive. It was the same last night as well.
I've tried a couple of other seller pages and they seem to load as normal and are responsive.

Wait and don't click on anything until it loads and it should take a minute or so. It's because of the high number of comments and items. This is normal for looking at Eddy's page.

I chose a very easy one for myself this year because I'm a real lazy fucker. As I enjoy fishing and didn't go last year due to lack of self motivation my resolution is to go fishing this year at least once. Probably do a bit of macky bashing in the summer.

You're right. Arthur C. Clarke touted the idea in one of the 2001 series. There's absolutely no reason that space elevators wouldn't work like a charm, once we have the knowhow and the engineering smarts to construct such an undertaking.

I'm so up for this. Always liked the idea of space travel but was put off by fear of the rockets bursting into flames. Getting an elevator up to a space station seems much more civilized. Hopefully there will be synth music and nice views on the way up.

It’s because if it hasn’t arrived on day 9 after showing as sent the dispute button appears. The assumption is that if it hasn’t arrived after 9 days then it may not be coming and you should dispute to protect your coin.

Incredible show! I love how it portrays Daniel Larusso as the villain in the story, or at least shows Johnny's side of things. Although I thought season 2 was a little weaker than season 1, almost like a teen drama at times. Can't wait for season 3!

I use Kodi and have real debrid set up through seren add-on for kodi, every show u could ever want every network it's great
look into getting a Plex box. Bought it off ebay and for 50 quid a year i can watch HBO, amazon, netflix, etc. Its a pirated box

Cheapest way to watch every movie and tv show imo is popcorntime. I use it for the kids to watch Mandalorean. Go to popcorntime.ie and dowload the app for the device you’r using. It has an option for streaming to tv set. Its like Netflix but for torrents. Cheers!
