You shouldn't be allowed to claim any benefits while in full time employment. It's crazy, we are basically subsidising employers who ought to be paying more.
And I hope that, one day, employers decide paying a living wage is more important than ever increasing profits such that in work benefits are no longer necessary. I propose a link between maximum and minimum pay within an organisation. Let's say; no pay ( overall package including bonuses, perks and dividends) higher than 5x the lowest full time salary.

You should look into some unbiased reporting on the soviet Union, and some witness statements from the older generation who lived through it.
You will find that many of them tell you life was better in the USSR, than in post USSR Eastern Europe and Russia. Besides that they were several decades ahead of the west on womens rights and social services.

I would say, that "starving" inarguably applies to way less than 1 in 5 children in the UK, US or anywhere in the West which makes your point about the ills of capitalism fairly moot in context.

I don't think Communism has ever worked as Capitalists are always creaming off the top.
A great book on the subject is Eat The Rich by the US satirist (and huge drug consumer) P.J. O'Rourke. I think his and my politics are probably polar opposites, but you could get fucked up at a party with him and have an amazing time. Anyway, good book. Breaks down all sorts of different political stances, and Good Communism is one chapter, and Bad Communism another. He's a funny guy, but maybe don't consider it as in depth reasoned academic analysis.

Communism is inherently tyrannical. History shows that. There aren’t any examples of success for a reason. It goes against the human spirit. Millions more died die to its tyranny than under the Nazis but you never see documentaries on the BBC or Netflix about Stalin, Mao or Pol Pot. Capitalism isn’t perfect by a long way but meritocracy is natural and drives progress. People to an extent sort themselves into roles and structures on natural ability and interest. Socialism just teaches people to rely on the state whilst the state gets to dictate how people think and behave. It’s ideological tyranny on the one extreme and financial exploitation of a liberal society by the few on the other. My grandad was a carpenter and paid his subs to his union for years until he acknowledged the financial and ideological corruption that it was based on.

Pulling down statues and washing over history is going to do more to help people to forget that it ever happened, we should leave the statues up and educate people so that we know to never ever let it happen again.
Taking away someone's freedom without reason and trading in people's misery is about as bad as it gets and I repeat, we should never let it happen again. Pulling down statues is another step in the direction of helping people forget that it ever happened and if we can't learn from the past then we are in danger of repeating it.

Algorithmic price-fixing appears to be spreading to more and more industries. And existing laws may not be equipped to stop it.
This is fascinating, but we are handing something else over to AI, because it’s smarter than us. I think we are close to politicians asking it “how to run a country which will in turn, enrich my family and friends”. Or are we already there?

Half the problem is with countries that have enormous military budgets. They need wars to justify spending obscene money on their military. My fave movie is still the ESB (which shows my age). Rogue One comes second.

The best of star wars (in my opinion) is the board game Star Wars: Rebellion.
It's a brilliantly made, engrossing 2 player war game and I have played it so many times and would bite anyone's hand off if they offered to play with me 😁 it has a bit of a steep learning curve (for a stoned wally like me) but once you get to grips, it will be the best stoned board game you ever played.

lol it's different in different countries. A conservative in the US is different from a conservative in the UK.
As an example the BLM movement (btw I support equal rights for all races, genders etc.) have tried to expunge slavery and that part of history. Taking down statues of former slaveholders and so on won't change anything, we must remember these things happened so that they don't happen again.
Because of slow or no change for certain groups there is an attempt to accelerate that change from an evolution to a revolution. People will only be backed into a corner for so long whatever their political inclinations. Some people think they're pushing for positive change but real change is when we've learned the lesson.

Well the statues are an example. They are subjects for posterity but they also memorialise history and certain points in history. As such they connect themselves to that history.
I basically agree with you though, they aren't the history themselves and so it shouldn't matter. It's what they represent that makes the difference.

Agreed, I went to Istanbul during Ramadan a few years ago and it was fantastic. Highly recommend that city, just a beautiful place and the food is amazing!

My Auntie and her “friend” went to Turkey during Ramadan and she said it was nightmare. Agreed that it was a beautiful place and the food was beyond superb.
Apparently Jordan is quite chill. Haven’t been but have seen a documentary following a guy (Levison Wood) travelling around Arabia and definitely Jordan is more relaxed than some surrounding countries. Also Petra is in Jordan which looks amazing

Malaysia & Indonesia definitely worth a mention! Very underrated as tourist destinations. Azerbaijan is a fairly secular Muslim nation, with a big drinking culture & nightclubs, same goes for Kosovo. Friend of mine visited both & had a great time. Apparently Kosovans love Brits. Morocco is very regional, but always friendly. I've never been but some of the best & most hospitable people I've encountered come from there - a colleague of mine gave me a big chunk of hash at work once because he was despairing at the shwag I was smoking (pre-LB days!).
My friend went to Iraq before lockdown and had a brilliant time. Iraqis are very friendly and tjough there are issues a well run tour will be worth it. Some of the architecture looks incredible.

I find myself in a situation where I am unable to buy a home, unable to live comfortably while working what I would say is a fairly good job all because 1000+ goes towards deductions and funding these kind of people. These kind of people are the real problem and tarnish the reputation of everyone else.
To the OPs question most countries barring Saudi Arabia are fine for a visit just be sure to obey the local customs. Saudi Arabia is full of bigoted hypocrites so I would steer well clear of there. Some notable examples which are quite liberal are Morocco and Turkey. Istanbul and marrakech are good city breaks and there are also loads of resort towns such as Agadir, Bodrum etc. Further afield you could travel to the northern areas of Pakistan where I am from we have the 2nd tallest mountain K2, hash from the Himalayas beautiful food and beautiful people. It’s an amazing place and it’s safe despite what you hear on the news. Search karakoram tourism if you’re interested

I am talking from first hand experience, I know my dad experienced racism in the 90s and I have experienced it first hand when travelling to more rural parts of the UK. Racists will be racists but I have enough life experience to know not all white people in this country are like that. This is nothing to do with race anyway it’s about British culture and contributing to the society we live in. I have seen myself people come over here, get a council house within 2 months, universal credit, free medical. Add the odd cash in hand job to that and you’re laughing.

I agree if there is a genuine need for asylum then yes careful support should be provided but also monitored and tapered off when reasonable. The current system can be more profitable than working a 9-5.

I'm sure we're in agreement that we have a crazy economic situation where working 9-5 at minimum wage is often not enough to survive, and I agree that the meagre levels of support that's provided by the welfare state sometimes exceed that. But it's the low wages and high costs that are the problem, the disparities in wealth distribution in the sixth largest economy in the world. It's not the amounts that are received by benefit claimants that causes problems for those in low paid work. Far from it, indeed it makes society worse for everyone to live amongst widespread poverty.
Reducing the support to those in need is not going to help people to be fully functioning members of society, whether they have migrated here recently or can trace their family tree back to the Alfred the Great. I travelled around SE Asia for a few months and I loved Lombok in Indonesia. We were stopping at a homestead that a Muslim family owned. They don't drink but were more than happy to get alcohol in for us travellers.

I'll vouch for Morocco. You've got to be streetwise of course, but a beautiful country with kind and generous people. You soon tune out the prayer calls.
As an english guy with a house in morocco, I'd definitely vouch for that - I fell in love with the place. Tangiers in the nprth is perfect if you dont want things too hot and youd like to still see alot of europeans, casablanca or marakech if your looking for the arab vibes with old medinas and lots of tourist activities - Fez if you like leather. There are even a few smaller places i like such as chef chawen - the blue city which have some amazing places to see. You could even visit the jabala and see farming as it was hundreds of years ago - youll never meet nicer or more genuine people

On a side note, if you biggas are into your smoke, go to morocco and head to places like al hoceima in the rif mountains - they grow everything up there and would happily sell you a kilo for less than £100 😁

I'd second Indonesia and Malaysia as being extremely friendly, but the friendliest people I've ever met are from travelling in Kyrgyzstan, where everyone I met wanted you to either stay with them or to take you out for dinner and meet all their family and friends! I've also heard great things about Tajikistan!🙏🏼💚

Pakistan is very good country to visit, most travel vloggers has said Pakistan is the most hospitable country out of the 44 countries they visited. Personally I'd travel to northern areas of Pakistan and even go to the area near Afgan border if your wanting fresh pure hash
Definitely would recommend Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkey, Tunisia and Jordan. Malaysia and Indonesia are possibly the friendliest and nicest people I’ve ever met in my life. Also, their food and natural scenery is absolutely top tier. Morocco is a nice place too but I think the others are much better especially for tourism.

Northern Cyprus is good in the summer for a few weeks great food that is inexpensive, for around a tenner you can get a decent 3 couse meal at a nice Chinese for example and really nice backdrops of the sea at most restaurants just don’t upset anyone in the army as they do no fuck about.
I heard a story when I was there about a foreigner who had pissed off one of there neighbours and the neigbour told the army that they had drugs so they got them and held them for 2 days hitting them demanding to know where the stash was buried a proper pistol whipping.

Going back to drugs, my apartment was randomly raided for a drugs test. Not shitting you I open the door to a big team of narco agents and a TV news crew. They were doing random drugs tests in the neighbourhood. Literally take me to my toilet, pass me a plastic cup and watches me with my back turned pee in the cup! Can't make the shit up! Fortunately all was good.
I have highlighted a few of my bad experiences however it can't replace the 100s of amazing experiences I gained. The people are friendly, the food is good. Number 1 rule when visiting Asian Street food stalls, go where all the locals go, if you don't follow the rule you'll end up code brown.

For me it’s more of a culture thing, I was a bit of a social drifter in school - could make friends really easily, but no real identity. At 15 I was jacked af, aggressive af, heavily influenced by football and particularly the violent culture that came with it due to where I’m from and some family history. Luckily I fell in with the stoners who were all really nerdy and intelligent, allowed me to indulge that side of my personality and I felt at home. I dread to think where I’d be without cannabis tbh. I was on the road to being a proper knob haha. With that said, I am insanely forgetful etc, so it’s not all rosey. But I don’t think I’d change anything, nugget and proud ✌️

On a more serious note, i do think it has taken some motivation from my life. It's not like i am not busy most of the week, but it does slow me down and i would get more stuff done without it.
However, it is the best medicine i have tried that strikes the balance between stabilising my mood and not totally wrecking me like some of the pills the doc handed out.

i'm really interested in immediate effects and anything that persists. for me it's under an hour and i was disoriented for maybe 8 hours with a 1/2 life around 1 hour.

I've done maybe 4 hours, I switched up games though and that help you from over dosing in a single game.
I think the longest I've done in one go is about 3-4 hours. The weirdest part of VR for me was when I first got a headset, for about a week I felt like I was in VR all the time. The head-bobbing effect of walking in reality seemed exaggerated.
But all that's faded away now. I can use VR without any adverse effects except maybe a bit of eye strain for a long session.

it seems to me the more immersive the platform the tougher it gets on the body. cheap vr gets on my nerves before i get queezy, a full on setup with peripherals and i feel like its a portal just getting back to irl.
Only1 hour. Played the space station game on occulus for about 10 minutes and felt so sick. Took me a good sleep before i felt better. Very disorientating!
For sim racing I usually use VR and I just don't like flat screen anymore, I'll probably VR for like an hour at a time. when your high and in vr racing, battling with dudes online, it's something to really try.
The last time i scuba dived i projectile vomited an hour after i got out the water. I don't think I want to try it in vr

I was an anti vaxer so didn’t willingly roll up my sleeve till I caught Covid and spent the next 3 weeks hooked up to machines in ICU. It’s kinda fucked me up in the long run too. He explained to me how it works and how it has mutated and most likely jumped from species to species. As humanity continues to expand across the globe at a rapid rate pandemics will happen. I certainly wont have any vaccination for sure. I wager though the governments will make it passive aggressive mandatory. There’s a very interesting book written by Dean Koontz in 1981 The Eyes Of Darkness, that mentions a virus created in a lab just outside wuhan in labs called Wuhan-400, and he’s prediction is that it will affect humanity around 2020! My opinion on matters like this are not worth 5p, but the timing of covid being in similar time frame to the UK leaving the EU does seem convenient. The website Leafly is a decent place to start if you want to get technical. They have all of the terpenes present in cannabis listed so you can research the variety of terps and then find strains that contain them. I'm a bit old skool so everything is fruity, earthy or gassy for me lol.

I have no idea what they are, I’ve smoked on and off since I was an early teen all through 90s and through the 00s never heard of them! And I was an obsessive weed/hash head , my son was born in 2014 and I slowed down on smoking, now he is older I’m back lol and all of a sudden everyone’s banging on about Cali and terps! I think the reason it seems like a new thing is that combustion destroys everything except THC so when smoking that really is all there is. It’s only with vaping that terpenes kick in at lower than combustion temperatures. There are about 400 terpenes in cannabis and about 20,000 in the plant world. So far only about a handful are genuinely known to have effects when vaping but more research is going on all the time…
Yeah, it's best to avoid the terps completely, who knows what it could be causing? Stick to CBC to thin down carts, if you can get it.
To be honest the only way you really get to taste the terpenes as they should be is to vape. They do burn off at very low temps. Whilst you do get flavour from combustion. It’s kinda negligible.

Time had proven that the ultra rich are more like hoarders with money. That's why offshore havens, and tax shelters have grown exponentially over the past 30 years.
I'm glad for logical disagreements, backed by facts. But I have no interest in hate, or aggression, there is just too much of that already.

Yes, l read about the sister you lost to cancer. I truly am sorry for your loss. I've watched my mother lose a kidney to cancer and my father had prostate cancer and l've lost count of the number of cancerous tumors he's had removed from his face. I have to take him to his doctor March 1st to have another one removed. I can't prove it but l believe one or more of the pharmaceutical companies have come up with a cure for some, if not all forms of cancer. As they say, there's no profit to be made with a cure. I hate to be that cynical, but they haven't given me a reason to think otherwise, judging by their previous behavior.

You're right about the pharmaceutical companies. Started out curing everything that came their way and they went kaput. When one of them said they created a cure for hepatitis c, my jaw hit the floor. It's the first time anything has been cured since those early days, as far as l can remember it happening. Today is a different story. To watch that prick, who was testifying before a government committee about why he raised the price of a drug his company makes, all he did was act like a smug little bastard, taking the 5th when he wasn't busy acting like an ass. They should really worry about someone who has the same disorders, yet refuses to believe it and doesn't try to get help, like the dude from Florida who killed all those people in that nightclub. I realized something was wrong and it came to a head when l was awake for 19 days for absolutely no obvious reason, so l sought help. I don't have a criminal record as well, or any history of violence in my past, yet they think l'm the dangerous one. They're right in one aspect. I never leave my home when l'm in manic mode. Wow, yes, we've got a lot in common! I've been under the care of psychiatrists for longer than I care to figure out. The reason it went down this time was due to a Coinbase announcement that they where not going to be allowing BCH trades for a specific period after the hard fork that happened just recently. A big BTC holder sokd off a shiload of coin which started it to drop and of course others started following suit and sold off their coin as well. There are also things like market corrections, people pulling out to invest in stock or alt coins and a bunch of other random shit. Some of which is predictable and others very much not so.

The cryto world is even more fickle then the actual stock market. CoinBase is one of the biggest market places / sellers of crypto so it put a lot of people on edge. Been downward a lot since then.
Supply is limited by mining difficulty so it's always growing at a slower rate. Basically coins are getting harder and harder to mine.
You also have the halving coming up, which will further reduce supply, unlike quantative easing from fiat currency.
