Mate I would not risk it in Dubai. Seriously if you can't go without don't go. They don't mess about with cautions, are highly suspicious and people will grass you up without a second thought. Don't risk decades in jail just for a smoke. Personally I don't go anywhere I can't smoke reasonably safely or a quick bribe won't get you of trouble.

dubai has started to ease out of the cannabis hate. no more jail time, they're justing grabbing it and leaving you alone.

It's PR. The Emirates is a deeply Conservative place. They want to appear more Liberal, but attitudes are religiously linked and remain very hard-line. In Saudi Arabia (different example), women can drive now (but most don't as it's frowned apon). What is reported in the media doesn't reflect reality.

To reiterate, it seems I'm the only one here who actually did time in Dubai prison for possession with intent to consume. The rules have no changed and there is no more deportation for possession with intent to consume. But if you fuck up in the prosecution and say the stuff wasn't yours or you didn't know , they will charge you with anything from sharing/promotion/selling. Sharing is 5 years. Promotion is 10 years. Selling is 25 years. The quantity of the substance doesn't matter, neither does if it's cannabis or methamphetamine. Cannabis is honestly treated worse than most other drugs.

I did time in 2017 from August to October and I was given a sentence of 3,000 AED fine plus deportation. Trust me guys, getting caught in Dubai with drugs isn't worth it. In case of selling (if you tell at the prosecution that you gave to your friend for 2£, that's selling, you don't need to have 100 sales to be considered a seller) your case moves to the capital city, you will spend anytime from 1 to 2 years to be sentenced during which you get to make one-5 minute call once a week. And for selling the mandatory sentence is 25 years. If you're lucky, you will get out in 9 to 12 years.

I repeat don't order to your address. You cannot feign innocence or say that your friends were playing a prank. For any suspicion of drug use, you will undergo a mandatory drug test (during which you will be put in a room with 20 others in the CID headquarters in Dubai) where you will be treated like shit, slapped, beaten for not answering promptly.

Not at all, all I'm saying is I extensively used the dark net while in Dubai during a time when it was unheard of and also the CIDs there weren't even sure what the substance was when they saw the concentrates, things have changed now. So many questions arise in my mind from this post..... such as do you like the idea of many years in a middle eastern prison, or have you done any research on the country you are about to visit? All in all a very bad idea. I mean a teacher got put in prison for naming a teddy bear after the prophet Mohammed. They are tolerant of alcohol because they have to be to accommodate a western tourism, but drugs is a go to jail, do not pass go and the FCO won't help you. I've done some smuggling but never to middle east or asian countries. They don't take kindly to it!

I'm one of the lucky ones, I know many who did 5 to 10 years based on their testimony at prosecution. I know a few british guys who are doing 25 years for selling cannabis.

It’s not worth it bro. I am sure chances of being caught are minimal, but trust, just think the impact it would have if you actually got caught (legal costs, family, possibly even from your employer). I recently took an unopened bag of edibles to Spain without an issue, but the stupidity of my actions hit me, ironically, when sitting on my balcony high!

Shhesh. You're brave. I worked there for 3 years. The only thing I dare do out there was a local smoke but it wasn't cannabis. While I was out there an American was arrested a jailed for smoking a joint BEFORE getting on the plane to fly to Dubai. Cannabis in his blood was enough to arrest his for possession.

I have lived on and off in the middle east for the last fifteen years - although I used almost every day I was there, I don't recommend it due to the harshness with which drug users are treated generally. I say generally, because I do know an individual who was caught at Abu Dhabi with half a key of coke and after one month in the holding cells and then local prison (with no charges) he was released and 'told' to leave the country immediately (I.e. not deported). With regards to having it sent to your condo - think again because ALL incoming mail to UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi etc. is scanned!

When you can control temperature, lighting, humidity, Co2 and can get the same genetics, why would anyone bother risking importing weed when it can be grown just as well here?

Not saying all imported weed is fake, definitely don't want to have that argument, but use your common sense and you'll realise a hell of a lot of what's being sold as imported isn't what it's claimed to be.

Outdoor grown weed is a different thing altogether, but if the same indoor environment can be created in the UK as anywhere else in the world, why not just grow it here?

I could be wrong but importing cannabis that can easily be grown domestically, doesn't make much sense to me.

For the reason that anything that’s cheaper to produce abroad and send to the uk than produce in the uk makes sense for it to be produced abroad. Or the other reason is we just don’t have the sunlight of many other countries or the land or the easily bribable police force and governments of some places. Or the expertise of some people in some countries to grow a good or consistent product

It makes perfect sense, Spain has the land, the sun,the mountains and the Gitanos.

And with the cost of electricity it will be cheaper to import from our Spanish cousins very soon!
