Hard to tell from a Pic but a few things:

This extract has for sure been overheated, that could be from not letting it cool enough. It could also be from not cleaning between each hit.

After each dab you should wipe the banger with a cotton bud or dunk it in iso

Try a cold start, clean up then another cold start if you get the same result it's the extract that's not great.

I use cheap Amazon bangers but I wipe after every dab and dunk them in iso for a few hours every weekend and they look brand new, I also only do cold starts as I hate trying to clean quartz

Yeaaaah i should have said on my post that its very important to make sure your banger is totally clean from the previous dab. The teeniest little bit of left over extract in it will start to burn when you heat the banger next time.
I dont have a full on iso dunk station, but I first wipe the banger with a couple of cotton buds & then when its cooled enough, I dip it into a plastic tub thats filled with isopropyl a few times to rinse out any remaining bits and the wipe the inside with a piece of tissue paper to speed up the drying.

I usually only get USA/Canadian imported extracts. Most of the time ive had any that were UK made....although they tasted amazing and were as strong as any imported ones....they tended to all leave a bit of dark residue in the banger. Most darker hash rosins ive tried also leave residue.
So your issue could be 3 things really
1) Too hot
2) Banger wasn't fully clean before heating
3) Extract is more home made quality rather than lab extracted grade.

Shatter and crumble are different consistencies of the same product, bho.

Badder, budder, live resin are all much terpier than shatter or wax.

Also try an erig as you can be sure the temp is always consistent which allows you to judge the product rather than have any variance from your consumption method.

I am blasting off any residue from previous attempt,but admittedly not wiping.
From what I can see I need to be between 400-500c but the shitty £10 heat reading gun doesn’t seem to be able to read anything from the banger? Move it to the side and check the floor and it works fine,so I’m just guessing the heat really.
I have had a couple of clean rips that left nothing-so it’s obviously that I need to be aiming for I suppose?

I’ve got four different flavours of crumble here and I can’t taste a remote bit of difference between any of them.

This is by no means a rule of thumb but if you’re using a banger and a torch to heat it up, heat it for 30 seconds and then leave it for a minute before dropping extract in and dabbing. I used to use a stopwatch timer thing on my phone when I used to dab a lot. Heat for 30 and then at 1:30 take the dab and see how that goes.

This is 100% your problem.

There is no such thing as "blasting off the residue", you are just burning the residue onto your nail. You can't clean quartz by heating it with a blowtorch, you damage the quartz and bake the product into it.

You should only torch your banger to heat for a dab, and you should only clean by wiping with a cotton bud and iso.

Don't listen to anyone who says you can torch your banger clean, that's not possible.

That’s what I saw others doing before so I repeated.
My iso hasn’t arrived yet so making do.

I’ve just gone to have a dab and I’ve pulled the banger out and all the previous dabs are just gathered up further down the elbow!! So that’s why I haven’t been getting anything off of it. Why is it doing this?
Is the whole head meant to be heated up down to where it joins the main bong?

This could be a few things

Letting the banger cool for too long so the extract cools when travelling down the stem

Dabbing a big glob

Too much residue buildup so the dab doesn't have enough space to evaporate on the nail getting pulled down the stem

Pulling too hard on the bong, dabs vapourise so you don't have to pull a flame through a bowl and can hit it softer than a flower bowl

Could be a combination of these things

If it is a laser thermometer you are trying to use it won't read glass because it distorts the laser. If you can get something that can take the heat and the laser like a brass spoon gauze you can use your thermometer on then remove it before you dab, might be worth a try 👍

Thanks for the tip but I’m more accepting of the fact I can’t do it and move on.

Personally for me I use a blowtorch to heat the banger for 1 minute, let it cool for 1 minute, drop in my dab and inhale with a carb cap. That usually clears the dab in one bit but sometimes a quick reheat for a few seconds will get the last of it. I always wipe out the banger with a cotton bud after each dab to avoid the previous dab charring onto the glass when I heat the next one. Just bear in mind, concentrates are made by extracting the oils and resins from the plant matter. If it’s made poorly some plant matter will still end up in the concentrate which ends up causing more mess in your banger.

I would like to have a temp reader that actually works,that would be helpful. Maybe I was expecting too much by buying the heat reader gun that checks for c-19 on your forehead and expecting it to read 400c.? Unsure.

If some types of extract are too hot then they leave some dark residue in the banger like in your pic….but some types of extract leave residue in the banger even if the temp is correct.
Generally speaking I would recommend you do your dabs on the cooler side.
I use a small kitchen style blow torch and I heat for 45 seconds & then I let it cool down for 1 minute before I stick the extract in.
You could try a cold start dab sometime & see if that leaves residue in the banger. If it does then it’s the extract that’s the problem rather than the temp.

keeps the temperature at the same level for as long as u want. i dab at 480° to 510° depending on how strong my lungs are that day. just throw a dab in and just sip on it over a couple mins while i play games. dont have to worry about a thing. but also make sure u have a mega clean banger between dabs as already stated above. the banger itself may also contribute but i have only ever used quartz so cannot comment

Evenly heat your banger for 1 minute, depending on what you’re dabbing or how hot you want it. If bho I’d leave it for at least 90 seconds to get the best terps if hash rosin and done properly you could probably hit around 60/65 seconds. How your banger looks after should give you a good idea if you’ve been dabbing fire or shit. This is what I do with terp slurpers so may differ for you but when I used a thermometer 90 seconds was around 550c 60 second about 600c. All depends how you wanna dab if you wanna get high as fuck hit it hot and hurty, you’ll cough your lungs up but after 5 minutes and after the sweats and thinking you’re going to die you’ll be higher then a mother fucker

Tried both blowtorch heating and induction heating and I couldn't get the hang of either. Came to the conclusion that I shouldn't be near super heated things nor prolonged open flames whilst very high. Sorted that by getting an e-nail, so you just set the temp, wait for it to heat, drop in concentrates and dab. You're 100% guaranteed to know then that it's definitely not the temp.

This is my thinking at the moment too. Blowtorches to get high looks/feels fucking dumb-even to me.

Added terps can be the good the bad and the ugly. The good (natural plant extracted) are very expensive so are often substituted for what are the equivalent of artificial flavourings in food. I’m always doubtful when people rave about “lip smacking flavours like Opal Fruits!” without questioning why that might be.

Crumble should have all natural terps. Problems begin with distillate because terps are lost during extraction and added in afterwards…

Avoid wax and crumble

Fake stuff is being made by whipping distillate and terps until it turns into a wax consistency then freezing it

Have you tried doing that? Because it won't come out like crumble. It will come out a sticky horrible mess. Crumble is finger ready, you can handle it with your fingers without issue. You can't 'whip' distillate up, at room temperature, especially with terps added, it will go back to it's original form. You COULD freeze it, but whenever someone takes it out, it will revert back to distillate. Where did you read that?

fresh pressed rosin is usually the best way to lose terps depending on temp. opposite end of the spectrum, say diamonds can be terpy as fuck and sweet as a nut depending on strain. how you dab can also effect the terps (temperature, cleanliness, equipment) and if you are dabbing wrong you may as well just be smoking air that gets u high

Other way round mate WPFF hash rosin preserves the most terps, diamonds are pure THCa with no terps .

Diamonds are flavourless by default, they always have terps re-added. The terps are removed during the manufacturing process.

I know it’s an extraction process but that taste is stupid sickly over the top sweet.

Really? But the weed that stays there I found to be absolute fire. Just came back after nearly a month there and I did not get a bad strain ever, bought daily and I didn't pay the premium prices either. Maybe it's just the export stuff thats bad? They did have 100 to 200 bhat per gram strains that looked a bit brown but all others were natural looking and well cured fire buds! One particular strain (Kings Juice) about 500 per gram blew my head off in Bangkok 😆. Definitely UK top shelf quality if not better. I think I got lucky with the dispensary too. They knew their stuff and had a great selection and their own farms.

I am only going on what people who have taken it as work have said about it. I’ve never actually smoked it, sounds like it’s better then they’re making out
