Nope. The most recent HMRC statistics show less than 4% of estates paid inheritance tax in 2020–21. This will probably rise to over 7% by 2032–33. Only the most wealthy estates pay it.

Because if you don't the entire wealth of the country would be in the hands of a tiny group of people living on inherited wealth and enjoying the benefits of rent and compound interest. I will lose a reasonable sum to inheritance tax on my death and although it's annoying I also recognise that it's unavoidable if we are going to have a society with any degree of equity or hope for 95% of people. Compound interest over 100s of years creates massive fortunes often in terms of land and property these are finite resources. You can also gift huge amounts to your children before you die, if you get rid ten years before you pop your clogs IHT doesn't get it.
I feel that inheritance tax is a good thing, however, it should not go to the treasury, but instead to the local authority. In this way it benefits the community they were a part of, rather than a meaningless black hole of untraceable generic funding, that is as likely to be spent on Boris Johnsons security guards as it is something actually worthwhile. I feel the same about funds of closed companies automatically going to the treasury. It should be used locally where they need the money.
You would increase inequality between areas in this way. Kensington and Chelsea would pick up millions Sunderland much less. Over the years the effect would be disastrous if the sums were large.

The infrastructure of the country is what has allowed an individual to accumulate the wealth. If someone is so greedy that they think it is preposterous to pay inheritance tax they are free to live elsewhere. The problem of the ultra-wealthy finding ways around paying any taxes at all is another issue of course. And yes the country is still mired in feudalism hence the landed gentry still being around and anachronisms such as hereditary peers sitting in the house of lords.

If Ukraine was to surrender their lands, then I'd say only if they were entered into NATO, which enables their future security, and the lands would need to be demilitarised.

I don't want to give preference to someone the same color as me so why should I prefer someone for being born in the same country as me (or worse they are ordained a citizen by some twat)?
Basically it derives from the same origins. There are certain laws of ethnic relations in history of humankind, such as:
1. law of percentage: lets say a black person somewhere in gothenburg or copenhagen would trigger an amused curiosity and the outpouring of sincere sympathy, however, if you "inject" immigrant workers up to the fateful threshold of 4-8 percent and you will already have a racial situation - the nature of social relationships changes, engendering ethnic tensions, global reflexes painful to describe. The more the percentage increases, the more class struggle transforms itself into racial confrontation. Basically, this percentage is sufficient to make racial discrimination appear spontaneously in people who previously believed itself wholesome and devoid of any racist sentiment.
2. The law of assimilability: If majority and the minority belong to the same large ethnic group (all are white, or all a asian), then assimilation occurs progressively. Interesting points. I just came across this forum and will make a contribution. Meanwhile, on the topic of Scottish Nationalism, I have myself proposed Independence For England! We English (whatever that means through consensus) vote in a referendum to dissolve the union of England and Scotland. Never mind what they want, how about what we want, which may be to separate from them, along with the subject nation of Wales. My point is that I consider an English Independence Referendum is incumbent on ourselves to determine our Englishness without the input of the other three nations. Devolution, revolution, phooey! Being born and growing up in the North, spending the last 2 decades in the South, and finally relocating back to the North of England, i’d say there are even considerable cultural and economic differences between different areas of this country.
There was a political movement that started a few years ago, that seems to now be on the back burner, for northern independence. While this is a lofty pursuit, and i’m unsure how successful it might be if implemented, I think it suggests that certain areas of our country define themselves not on a national footing but a regional one.
Personally I consider myself English and Irish, rather than British, but more crucially, being Northern trumps ‘Englishness’ for me…. race doesn’t come into it for me. Social class plays a large factor too.
I’d take a working class community in the North populated with English South Asians, Roma, and West African people over a predominantly white, middle class community in rural Hampshire- this is down to personal experience and unscientific, just my preference having lived in both places.

I’m British and Scottish mate. Think it is possible to be both. I’m not interested in Independence and believe it will not happen and will be a disaster if it does. In Scotland Salmond courted a certain block vote and got it. That is what has got the snp to where they are. That and shortbread tin thinking. They will soon want to let over 14 s vote. a lot of nationalists aren't so much racists as exclusionary. they believe in a social contact that only exists amongst members. outsiders are not part of the deal.

It's OK to like your country if you really do. You do live there after all. It's just a country. Other countries are not minorities in their own country as the British are not here.

I think it is oxytocin that causes the problems as it creates aggressive in-grouping, be it from the innateness from skin colour or the innateness from where someone was born.

Modern nations are basically about providing a trustworthy authority to govern commerce. Some countries like Singapore are especially good at this while others are left to shake downs like protectionism and arms manufacture under the constant threat of war.

Yes this is an important thing to understand. People are interested in their own lives and a crazy ruler is just a form of entertainment in most people's lives. If they are effective with delivering quick economic results then they are good entertainers and are delivering some positives then fine - so why think more about this? It's demeaning to even take a fascist seriously so why bother doing so? In Germany we know why.

In times of economic and political strife extremists always rise, whether left or right wing...it doesn't matter, they are reactionary's. For example the liberal left intend destruction of things about history that upset them much in the same way Nazi's in Germany burned books. People need to learn from History and rarely do, the same mistakes are repeated and things somehow trundle on. lol it's different in different countries. A conservative in the US is different from a conservative in the UK.
As an example the BLM movement (btw I support equal rights for all races, genders etc.) have tried to expunge slavery and that part of history. Taking down statues of former slaveholders and so on won't change anything, we must remember these things happened so that they don't happen again.
Because of slow or no change for certain groups there is an attempt to accelerate that change from an evolution to a revolution. People will only be backed into a corner for so long whatever their political inclinations. Some people think they're pushing for positive change but real change is when we've learned the lesson.

Well the statues are an example. They are subjects for posterity but they also memorialise history and certain points in history. As such they connect themselves to that history.
I basically agree with you though, they aren't the history themselves and so it shouldn't matter. It's what they represent that makes the difference.

Half the problem is with countries that have enormous military budgets. They need wars to justify spending obscene money on their military. It's cheaper to buy an M4 and thousands of rounds in the US than it is for hospital treatment. We don't realise how good we have it in the UK, but capitalism is the problem. It'll take nuclear fallout to change anything, and the way Ukraine is going, we're not far off.

The thing to keep in mind is that border controls did not exist for most of human history. It's not so much that technology is disabling them as it enabled them to begin with. Roads and air transport, enabled by nation's that consolidated public needs are how we got the borders. As people increasingly gain the ability to transact wihtout the state the borders will decline.

When living things breed their dna is copied but this isn’t a perfect process and sometimes errors in this process causes mutations. Where viral generations can be a matter of minutes rather than years microbial life is much more susceptible to mutations such as becoming more virulent and resistant to existing medicine. Or as is suspected in this outbreak a type of virus may live happily in a certain species of animal without causing harm but a mutation allows it to cross the species barrier and infect humans, but where humans aren’t it’s usual host it can cause harm. Unfortunately this is more common in areas where bush meat is traded because your going to get a range of different animal diseases that may cross the species barrier and there’s no biohazard control like you would get in an abattoir. Seriously, linking Coronavirus with 5g and the royals!? Why not throw in reptilians for good measure? Posts like this make me weep for humanity.

I was an anti vaxer so didn’t willingly roll up my sleeve till I caught Covid and spent the next 3 weeks hooked up to machines in ICU. It’s kinda fucked me up in the long run too. During my recovery I spoke to a dr who was an expert on biology and had done a thesis on viruses in university. He explained to me how it works and how it has mutated and most likely jumped from species to species. As humanity continues to expand across the globe at a rapid rate pandemics will happen. We will most likely get another in the next 30 years. Why the vaccine was created so quickly was it had been worked on for years. Since the SARS outbreak in Asia in the early 2000s. As coronavirus is a type of SARS or is very closely related (on this I’m not sure) it wasn’t really created quickly. Doctors and scientists just had to adapt their work slightly. It wasn’t an easy process by any means but so many people will involved in its creation. I respect everyone’s rights and opinions on vaccines but really they are a GREAT thing. Much peace and love.

There’s a very interesting book written by Dean Koontz in 1981 The Eyes Of Darkness, that mentions a virus created in a lab just outside wuhan in labs called Wuhan-400, and he’s prediction is that it will affect humanity around 2020! Smart contracts are a great improvement over the legal system, no arguing, no check is in the mail, just events and payments.
Makes sense as we have to do something brfore the system crashes down...but in the UK the entire legal profession just exists to keep the people from what is lawful, which is quite different.
we still have common law. in it there is no place for corporations, fines or lawyers...we just need to get rid of the crooks and use it again. All written down in magna carta. No legal 'acts' are lawful nor are acts of parliament...we have the shape of a system in place but we forgot it due to poor education and brainwashing by the media.

I think that by creating state machinery that allows coordination of social, military, political action on large scale over a big territory (including multiple cities), people unwittingly forged chains that could be broken only by the progress of modern times. Which made possible the education, instruction, information and coordination of the struggle of the working classes on an equally large scale.
History (theory), being unable to explain "failures" of many revolutions, has just chosen to ignore them by refusing to take into account all the authentic "unsuccessful" revolutions in history.
Revolutions happen more often than we think and are not always covered in blood and change of regimes.
That said, yes, believe it has to be a revolution, not necessarily ones whose images we have imprinted in our consciousness by history/media/etc.

The US showed the Soviet Union it was willing to use the most devastating weapon in history directly upon innocent civilians. The Soviet Union was understandably touchy having just lost 1/3 of its population to war. Since then the US has shown no regret for its mass murders at Hiroshima and Nagasaki and has never experienced the ravages of an invasion but instead has consistently moralised to the rest of the world about how it should do things to be as righteous as the US.
Stalin already knew about the bomb when Roosevelt told him about the first test. He was expecting Stalin to react when he told him about it. Stalin had spys who told him about it. They had been working on the bomb. The US finally realized this after Russia detonated their first bomb five years ahead of the predictions by the defense department.

The problem is you stopped learning history, the last decades of the 20th century showed that a dose of totalitarianism works. China and Singapore showed the world that democracy is not the only basis for for peaceful and prosperous societies, laying the political foundations for this Asian Century.
When does it ever stop at a "dose"? The OP is right; an understanding of recent history would remind people of a lot of things:
1) Times are fucking good right now, add up all the terrorism we freak out over and you have a half hour during World War II.
2) The atrocities against civilians by Whites and Asians was far worse than what a few Arabs are doing now and had a lot more support from the general population.
3) Fascism requires worship of the state and that makes war inevitable.

I know I feel like shit about my countries behavior towards the rest of the world it's basically the opposite of how I want to treat people.
If my country started the virus I would be bummed and if my government acted like assholes about it I would be really pissed off. But I can't speak for anyone else and I would like to hear from real people instead of this shit show of mass media.

Wet markets in China may have started the virus, but it's the absolute incompetence of the World Health Organisation that has failed to sanction the markets that shows the utter corruption in the system.
Don't judge Chinese people. They are the same as all of us, but the CCP has a hold over not only their own population, but the people that run the WHO.
It'll get worse before it gets better.

While I am a Chinese, from mainland China. I feel that our human is unfortunate, and the world's health system may need to be improved. It is true that this virus started here, but no one wanted it to be there. Everyone knows that the Chinese government uses centralised rules, and people listen to the government's control. It's not democratic and honestly, I hate this system. It helped China control the covid situation just in several months, but things became weird recently. Just talking about China, there is almost no Covid in any cities, but when there are one or two cases appears, people in social media will attack them and post their personal information on websites. Majority of people don't show care or love to them but it's like if someone doesn't follow the rule he should be abandoned. I feel very weird about my home country, the CCP culture is so different in the UK (I lived in 3 years here), these two countries treated the covid with a very different attitude. I would say no one is wrong, each nation has its own style, and everyone wants the virus disappears. For me, I would rather be a global citizen, as I found myself very difficult to find identity and where should I belong to.
We are all hardwired for wanting remorse like you are expressing but even more is the natural condition of having the remorse in the 1st place. I don't think this even a question because the answer must be of course!

I have a lot of contact with Chinese and Taiwanese people regularly. In general, I think people don't really know what to believe in mainland China. There have been other outbreaks in Asia, so COVID is nothing really new. I find that there is little talk of the virus. However I think this varies regionally, though people are getting on with their lives and things are getting back to normal, slowly. In Hong Kong lots of kids aren't at school. Kids in Taiwan have returned and things are pretty contained there, too. Factories and businesses have been closing in mainland China, so there is worry in certain areas of job loss, etc.
I hope this gives a general picture!

The Chinese and Cantonese have been mixing English into their language for ages. Any modern word like computer or internet etc the English is used instead of creating a new Chinese word. Its due to the unique way their Kanji etc work.
Singlish is still extremely fluid and forming If it ever settles into a new Language it will be more like the bastard mix of German, Saxon,Viking, Latin & French that is English.
Our own beloved English is a git of a bastard language as its mixed routs are why everything is so Inconsistent. Unlike most Latin or more singular sourced languages hardly anything is phonetic and the rules of both grammar and spelling never apply to the whole language making it hard to learn and a bugger for native dyslexics.
I wont even start on what happened to English in the USA over the years.
