Myrcene is the dominant terpene in the majority of cannabis strains. It begins to vaporise at 167*C for those of you who don't combust. Responsible primarily for a clove/mango flavour and it's sedating, muscle relaxing effects. Little research has been done into this compound, but of those conducted, there are some very promising result.
Myrcene is most prominently found in hops, and the holy basil plant. Contrary to popular belief, it is only a minor component of mango at about 1mg/kg; much lower than the 20mg/g concentration found in some strains. The dominant terpene in mangoes is in fact: pinene. The benefits: relaxation, muscle relief, sleep aid, antimicrobial, anti tumour and anti-inflammatory - but just how valid are these claims?
First, we must understand something about natural medicines and big pharma. So little research has been done into many compounds. If you ever wondered why, simply consider profitability. Many natural medicines cannot be patented, myrcene included. Therefore, there is simply a lack of profit motive to make a coherent study about myrcene. As such, much of what I am about to say comes from small datasets with poor verification.
It is known that terpenes can affect the binding affinity of THC to the CB1 receptor to a small degree, potentially explaining the subjective effects of strains when combined with the entourage of minor cannabinoids in each strain.
Myrcene has been proven to be antimicrobial to the extent that many organic compounds found in plants are. Think menthol. Certainly it makes the teeth feel clean, but doesn't exactly pull the legwork of the Colgate. Certainly, we can verify this claim.
Some smaller studies into subjective effects show the muscle relaxant, and sleep aid effects. Again, poor data sets. Most of which were clinical trials conducted by folks adjacent to the aromatherapy industry. Subjectively, these claims are true from my experience, but the data is sadly lacking.
Finally, the claims of sleep aid and muscle relaxant show some genuine promise, with several studies showing that myrcene acts as a sedative hypnotic, promoting sleep. One study even found subjects who had taken myrcene experienced impaired driving ability due to these effects. Provided further studies continue to verify these claims, we may soon be able to happily verify myrcene as a sedative hypnotic compound responsible for the sleepier effects of cannabis.

Nice write up man. I'm finding these interesting to read. I've long since been interested in the effects of flavour on my buzz as my preferences are for taste over pure strength. So something is working some magic in there.
:) Appreciate the support. It's flavour over strength any day of the week for me. After all, why skip the foreplay? Plants truly are magical, and cannabis is a special lady.
That's the thing though isn't it. It doesn't completely make sense based on the current model of thc gets you high. If that was the size of it we could all just take pills. There's something far more complex occurring when we smoke.
My folks are wine drinkers. Basically posh alcoholics I guess. It's interesting that they routinely pick the same wines on repeat. Whereas a smoker's more likely to leap on a new flavour to see how it is.

Cannabis 101: what are terpenes?
Terpenes are the naturally occurring volatile aromatic compounds that give cannabis strains their unique flavour, aroma and effects. Through the proposed mechanism of the entourage effect, terpenes modulate the effects of THC on the CB1 receptor by interacting with the binding affinity between compound and receptor. The end result is a variety of different therapeutic effects for the user. Through an understanding of terpenes and their interaction with the body, we are able to intuit potential medical applications of these therapeutic effects. Of course, as with all fields, further study is needed for conclusive results to be attained.
Terpenes in fact occur naturally in most plants giving them their unique flavour and aroma. Likewise, many of the carts you purchase use botanically derived terpenes from other plants, as they exist in higher concentrations and the starting material is generally cheaper. Most notoriously, black pepper is known to contain high concentrations of caryophyllene, and ripe mangoes a high concentration of myrcene. From an objective point of view, these are chemically identical to those naturally occurring in cannabis but often-times make for a worse subjective experience for the end user than naturally derived terpenes from full spectrum extraction of the cannabis plant. Unfortunately this is still a mystery to science, but my gut feeling is that we are getting the blends wrong.
Terpenes are incredibly volatile, and will degrade when exposed to air, and excessive temperatures. Extraction methods for concentrates need to be highly sensitive to preserve as much of this natural goodness as possible. Many recommend the bodeva pack – correct moisture levels are fantastic for retaining terpenes, but I often find these remove some terpene content from the flower. Newer technologies like the grove bag promise to maintain the correct humidity level whilst avoiding this problem, but from experience, trichomes are sometimes attracted to the side of these bags through static. A nice curing jar is the best way to keep things as nature intended. Make sure to keep it away from sunlight, or purchase a UV proof jar.

That's the dominant terps in orange bud isn't it? If so you're along the right lines for sure!
Indeed, and one of the most common terpenes in cannabis. It surprised me to find out that few orange strains are high in limonene. After all, limonene is the dominant aroma compound in orange peels.
Orange buds do seem to have a higher variety of minor terpenes than other strain families, which is very intriguing.

I remember years ago picking up gorilla glue for first time. Was very strong. But at the expense of everything else. Not much taste or anything. I didn't love it nearly as much as the less strong but more tasty bit I had. That could of course be for many reasons but I remember back then I started to question how much flavour had to play in the experience. It's interesting to read about the complexities.

The mango myth can(?) mostly be dispelled. An average mango weighing some 200g, and a myrcene content of only ~1mg/kg on the high end pails in comparison to the ~20mg/g found in some strains. I've yet to try eating 20kg of mango and some distillate to see if this differs from some distillate and no mangoes - I'm too sane to run this experiment on myself, but if there are any takers, give me shout!

A single fresh mango does indeed contain a similar quantity of terpenes to a gram of fresh cannabis. Neither truth tells us much about whether mangoes affect your high, because this hasn't actually directly been studied.

Optimise the heating curve of the element for either dry herb or concentrates.
Power it with hot swappable 18650s, or any battery variant of your choice.
Battery bypass: include an adaptor for mains power, so the device can be used either portably or as a mains powered mini desktop vape.

Since I’ve never owned one it’s hard to say how or if it needs improving. They are just very hard to come by, ship from Switzerland on a lottery type basis and cost a lot.
BUT, very few vapes cope well with hash and herb but this one apparently does it brilliantly. I get the modular design but I’m not sure what else drives its success hence the links. I’d be very happy to road test your version, you clearly seem to know your stuff. If it was specced to the existing model that would be fascinating and yeah don’t need the wood customisation they seem to like. Your pricing will be interesting…I think BAKx ship without box mods and you choose your own. I’d rather it came with one…

Made a tidy profit on the dip myself. Such big market fluctuations have been part and parcel of the crypto ecosystem forever. Those with less skin in the game may not be aware of just how speculative the value can be at times.
I expect to see the price stabilise over time as BTC is seen as an increasingly legitimate asset. I also expect to see steep rises in the near future.
Ignoring the U.S for now (as we have seen, they have made the market more volatile and more valuable), one thing is certain: wealthy people are currently in a strong position to buy financial assets. BTC is absolutely one of them, and competition for asset ownership between the wealthy will only increase. In my belief, this factor will be the big driver of BTC's growth in value, and stability in value. After all, this has been the biggest driver since 2019 - and the wealthy have certainly acquired a lot since. Inflation has played a large roll too.
Of course, one may argue that the buy in to the asset ownership of BTC is much lower than other financial instruments - infinitely low in theory. Whilst true, the percentage ownership will always be skewed in favour of those with more cash to buy coin. We will get some of the pie, at least.

Should be nothing to worry about - and even when your favourite goes missing, there are still plenty of amazing, reputable vendors

100% on board with you, sales should be worth more at the moment to vendors if the price fluctuates like it should. Some folks are just risk averse, and pull out at times like this. Some are fearing a drop back to 40k at the moment - I don't see it myself though.

its really good. i had a sample myself and would recommend. plan to buy more. i found it v uppy, surprisingly so, made for a v useful option. has a v unique flavour profile though kinda smokey-cured like a fine tobacco, so maybe try a smaller bit first

Hello all, not really a big hash person but recently found a liking for it more. Only thing is there’s all these different types of hash. What is exactly the best type and value worth. For example this 90u/120u what exactly is the difference and why is it more pricey? Thanks LB

Some of the fancy hashes absolutely blow your mind man. Usually I'll use hash as a joint topper. Some of the cold cure and frozen hashes are fantastically strong though and a world away from the commercial hashes and much stronger than weed on its own. Strawberry diesel/strawberry sour diesel/Strawberry haze. Many moons ago, I used to buy this from someone, but moved cities. To be honest, I cannot remember exactly what the strain was called.

Reckon this is the best Christmas song. It usually wins polls around this time of year. Completely fair as it's one of the only songs that critiques the festive season and describes it in a very real way. Most of our Christmases won't look like the John Lewis ad. No the cut off point is 5pm on the 19th and the winners will be at 12pm midnight on the 19th
12am midnight you mean. 12pm is midday mate. This would mean biggas are guessing the BTC price for 12am on the 20th not 12pm on the 19th.

I make custom audio equipment and also read tarot. Is there any reason I couldn't list these services for sale? Not expecting a single sale or interest if I did, but are there rules against this?

What sort of things are you interested in? I've got 20 years design and build experience. Speakers, amps, PA systems, effects pedals, interfaces, preamps, guitar amps, hifi - you name it.

Yes to all the stuff you listed, I'm currently looking at an sg copy hanging on my wall that got half the gubbins removed, I'm planning on splitting the pickups so that I have one pickup covering all six strings and 2 other pickups covering 3 strings each which I'm them planning on routing to 3 outputs to my pedal board where it's gonna then end up going through a 2 amp one cab design I'm in collecting bits mode for.
I have no idea if it's gonna work how I envision but the idea is to basically be able to saturate as much of sub to shrill with one instrument
Oh and the guitar is a 6 string tuned to A 👍
It's an ongoing side project 😁

I can't actually remember what speakers are in this cab at the moment, sound quality isn't really a concern currently as I don't plan to go any further than the hutch it's more the fun of working out what I want and then bodging my way to it.

Naim seem to swap out the part for something else based on what I could glean with the Google device but that's about all I understood when I looked which was a while ago.
My soldering skills are still at butchery level so I know better than to even try to go delving in there

Depends on the nature of the fault. Most probably down to the sketchy pot design with this type of failure. A little solder and a new pot should do it. It's Always worth a soft reset just in case gremlins have found their way into the controls 🤔
Soldering is not as tricky as it looks. A little patience and a little (and I emphasise not actually that much) practice, and you'll be golden. With repair work especially, be wary of how much heat is needed for the solder to flow vs. how much will affect component integrity. Takes a little practice 🤞

It's not a pot it's a resistor ladder that controls the volume

I was a bit blazed last night 😅 They give you a great volume control, but having an array of resistors is a much bigger pain to service for very little benefit. They're not common until you get to the high end of hifi usually
Yup, I'm lucky that my wife's uncle is a keen but budget limited audiophile so the setup I have was his first setup which he retired due to the aforementioned volume issues, he seemed puzzled that I didn't have issue with it originally but I started to later on.
Well I had an epiphany last night, I didn't have issues first off because I was using a dac to control the volume not the unit and it was only when I went more than one input and started adjusting the volume manually I had issues.
So in theory if I retwiddle the setup and drop all inputs other than the Dac I could find a place where the resistors are all happy and let the Dac to the volume

No rules against it at all but the main reason more legal items are not listed here is because it only takes bitcoin. Few people will pay fees to buy legal stuff🤷♂️
