Any book readers in here?
Baked last weekend with time to kill, decided to top it off by popping an edible or two and started re-reading Thus Spoke Zarathustra. Well... Suffice to say that I'm still thinking about it.
Metro 2033 was an interesting read while stoned, as was World War Z, I am legend, The Road, and the brilliant Children Of Men.
I will say, though, that reading Rosemary's Baby high left a very strange feeling in my heart. Like I truly have no idea what's happening just next door from me.
Y'all got any recommendations? Reading Lord of The Rings currently, then have a few philosophy & history books lined up.

i can't read books high as the words don't go in, and i find it amazing that anyone can!
but here are a couple of recommendations:
- mason & dixon, by thomas pynchon. possibly my favourite novel, and i recently finished a fourth or fifth reading of it.
- ways of being, by james bridle. fascinating book about AI, climate change, computing, and how we humans relate to (or fail to relate to) the non-human world.

oh yeah I'm the same - can't really enjoy books stoned! Audio books are a good idea :)
Thomas Pynchon is such a good writer. My personal favourite is Gravity's Rainbow. Pretty sure that he would write a lot of his work completely high to help him get into the characters' heads...and then edit it sober. Which isn't a bad process. It's probably how he came up with a guy who's have sex when a missile falls, so they use his erection as an early warning system ;). Also a long, phantasmagorical trip down a toilet.

Joe Abercrombie is my current favourite author. Kind of grim fantasy.
He builds characters so well you feel like you know them. Start with the First Law trilogy or The Heroes if you just want to dip your toe in.
If you prefer audiobooks the narrator who reads for him, Steven Pacey, is awesome. I didn't like audiobooks at all before listening to him

Moby Dick and the white whale is sooo worth it. Its a huge undertaking but when approached in the right atate of mind its a hugely rewarding read. Brilliant travel or sickness/recovery companion.

Might be a bit late to the thread but ragdoll by daniel cole is a book i wish i could read for the first time again, crime drama/detective fic, highly recommend. They turned it into a tv series too, which i havent seen yet so cant say if its as good as the book.

Hi there, I fulfilled a life goal (sadly it took a spine injury which is why I smoke so much lol) by collecting and reading every single Terry Pratchett book, namely the Discworld series, in order ofc lol. Described Like Lord of the Rings, but with comedy.
The early few books he's still finding his feet in the world he creates imo but soon it becomes a wonderfully weaved web of hilarity and a comparison of the real world and his own.
Theres also something for everyone, i personally like the "Guards" series following the careers of the officers there.

anyway just wanted to bring this up for probably the 10th time this year, we NEED the site to switch from the use of dollars to the obviously more sensible option of british pounds, the conversion rate right now is so fucked and it's costing vendors lots of money and costing buyers shitloads of money having to deal with this!
EVERY SINGLE DOLLAR NOW COSTS YOU 10P MORE THAN IT DID MERELY A FEW WEEKS AGO, LET THAT SINK IN FOR A MOMENT!

we need as much attention and votes drawn to this as possible, this affects every single one of the sites users with every single order, this needs to sorted with the utmost of urgency, the damage has already been done for months now and it only gets worse with every single order
Sadly I don't think a lot on here realise how much both vendors and customers are being shafted by the conversion.
I think we need *every* currency here and as a European changing to £ would suck worse. at least the $ is a standard for the world if you are only going to have 1.
we don't need every, and we dont need another brexit axis either. we just need major currencies and btc and let the users choose.
Good point well made, I think with the general instability of the world economy LB need to ensure the site remains economically viable, peeps are skint or more skint than usual and it is going to get worse. Thanks, hesh. This needs to be addressed NOW. Glad I'm not alone in feeling arse-reamed by a failure of LB to act ethically. This STINKS: sort it out or I for one will look for alternatives as anal isn't my thing.
Man every single order is over 10% more expensive than it was a couple weeks ago, it's so bad i was not happy making an order earlier knowing i'm overpaying for no reason

Is anyone able to explain to me why vendors are losing money by having the site set in $? I totally understand how it costs more for buyers, but surely vendors are making more ££ profit if they don't adjust $$ prices downwards periodically? Is it to do with vendor fees being in $ too?

my understanding was, in the case of vendors, the overall price of orders is unnecessarily higher than it needs to be (because of the exchange rate) which will lead to a loss in sales during a time where sales are likely to be down already due to the current economy, just another lose lose situation
just a quick tidbit, but transaxe, LB's payment processor, works in BTC not £ or $, and the fees are a fixed percentage, so i cannot see a reason for this change not to be implemented ASAP

I managed to get stocked up well with one of RealD's promos at the end of June, so I've been pretty well insulated from the exchange rate shenanigans the last couple of months. Now it's time to start looking for a top up and I'm feeling it...

dollars is just a denomination, anyway you slice it the sellers will need to explicitly lower their prices if buyers are going to realise any gain here.
it's not just a denomination, prices on here are incredibly rarely / not at all adjusted to the constantly changing exchange rate of dollars to pounds, leading to inherent and frankly unnecessary instability for everyone along with the added instability of bitcoin, it's a lose lose situation, since the vast majority of the buyers on here will have £'s in their bank account, not $'s

They definitely do, as we've had changes made before via threads / voting / topics etc
but of course we can't ever seem to actually correspond with the 'admin' so to speak, for obvious security reasons but it's incredibly frustrating!

Sounds like they need to get on top of it before somebody else dives in and a creates a modern lb type platform with all of the good features and things we wish for here. I can't be too critical of lb though. They are my only platform for buying my medicine. I don't know any real life dealers as I was late to the weed game and none of my friends partake. We all want everything cheaper in life and ultimately somebody usually loses out but this currency change we are after is a win for all three parties involved, vendors, customers and lb devs.

yes a borg pointed out that every seller needs to change their prices for any effect so why not do this now?

My understanding is the dollar price next to items is a guide price only, the real price is the bitcoins and it doesn’t matter if your in the UK or the US the bitcoin price is the cost regardless of what currency you are buying bitcoins in.
Are you buying dollars with sterling then buying bitcoin? Or selling coins for dollars and converting to sterling?

Let's use a simplified example..
Vendor uploads new item and wants to sell it for £10.
The exchange rate is £1 = $0.50.
Vendor sets a price of $20.
Pound weakens and now £1 = $1.
This means the vendor has to change the price or the buyer has to pay more for the same thing.
As vendors usually sell more than 1 item and the value of the £ is changing so rapidly, it either costs the vendors lots of time to keep the prices accurate or lots of money in lost sales because people don't buy due to increase in price.

I do keep an eye on the btc prices of items and I see them change quite often as much as 10 times an hour, as the price of btc moves.
Do those vendors have to manually adjust their prices or is there a sql script do it?
