There’s little scientific proof that indica and sativa strains produce drastically different highs. Could it be that we’ve just been told this over time and have come to believe it?

With both strains containing THC and CBD, the main compounds responsible for getting us high. Is the terpene profile alone enough to influence our high? Or isit the THC to CBD ratio? Or something else?

When I grew I found harvest timing was the biggest factor in a racy more head high or a mad couch lock effect..

Super cloudy tris and i was the undertaker

Slightly more translucent = balanced

Me personally I can’t stand pure sativa strains or sativa dominant, also gives me a bad time. However, I’ve noticed that certain cannabinoids play a big role in the effects and terpenes too. Certain terps are a lot more relaxing that others due to their properties. Also if you think about it, a lot of growers nowadays just go for the highest thx strains, I don’t often see many 1:1 thc/cbd strains, which I would love to see more of. I think atm a lot of consumers want higher thc strains, and a lot more flavourful strains hence why a lot of newer strains are coming out that have fruity/candy terps as opposed to old school strains like your white widows, haze’s, cheese, kush and OG strains.

The pure indica strains I've had seemed to have kicked my ass more, but that could just be a correlation thing you know? Those strains might of just coincidentally had more thc. So many hybrids on the market now it's hard to know for sure, as I just haven't tried enough pure sativa/indica strains to say definitively.

That’s exactly what got me thinking too! Could it be that certain Indica or Sativa strains just happen to have higher THC levels?

And with so many hybrids on the market now, it really seems like it’s blurring the lines and giving us a mix of effects. If you want to dive even deeper, I think the phenotype plays a role too. No two plants are ever exactly the same, even if they’re from the same strain, unless they come from the same mother plant.

You could give a grower two cuttings from different mothers of the same strain, like Ice Cream Cake, and they could turn out completely different. One might end up with higher THC levels, different terps, or varying effects, even though they’re technically the same strain.

I share Apex’s opinion for the most part. However may I add the minor cannabinoids differ from strain to strain,
and potentially are altered whether the plant is grown indoors or outdoors. Also terpenes can have a synergistic effect which can change how each individual user reacts to a particular strain.

I think there are too many complex variables going on to have a definitive yes or no answer to whether indica or sativa really has an influence.

I’ve been in situations where everyone smoked the same flower, some people were couch locked while others were suddenly in their creative zone lool.

Didn't want to address this but we felt compelled too. We're sure all our positive reviews will outweigh the negatives, as we have always shrived to provide great customer service along with quality products so the reviews speak for themselves.

This is a clear sabotage attempt and you should report it to cleanup borg, they’ve been pretty understanding with removing fake reviews in my experience.

I agree with others saying the real positive reviews will outweigh the negative fake ones but it shouldn’t be this way. Genuinely putting your time effort and care into every order only to be hit by a fake review from a degenerate trying to either sabotage, or blackmail for free products or refunds, is completely soul draining and a massive kick in the teeth.

I thought this be a great topic for the LB community to share what their all time favorite strain is.

Before, I would've said Cheese, and I mean the real UK Cheese, specially Blue Cheese! Now that it's been forever, and the cuts are literally non-existent, I've pretty much forgotten its beautiful taste and aroma.. but not the high though 😆

So if you had to smoke one strain for the rest of your life, which I hope would be a long time :), what would it be? It can any strain...

I had some Blue Nerds a while back that ticked a lot of my boxes. As for one strain to rule them all though, I like a bit of variety.

I'm the same. I don't have a favourite strain but like different strains for their different effects according to what type of high I want at the time. I also find that strains can vary quite a lot in effects too. I had a lovely bubba kush once, which had the nicest of body feelies, and it was budget bud too, but the next time I bought bubba it didn't have any of those effects at all. Same with ice cream cake, the first time tried it I was amazed at how it got me into a trance at very low amounts. It was amazing, everything just flowed so easy together like it was all one thing. But alas, the next time I bought some it didn't have the same effects at all. It's a real shame as I will probably never come across those special phenotypes again.

When it comes to strains producing specific highs, much depends on their genetics. Interestingly, the same strain can produce similar or even completely different effects depending on how it’s grown and by whom. I’ve personally experienced varying highs from the same strain. The only reliable way to ensure a consistent high, terpene profile, and flavor is by using cuttings from the same mother plant. This helps maintain the closest possible phenotype match, if not an identical one.

It’s exactly like rotten cheese… in the best possible way 😆. Honestly, it’s incredibly pungent with an unforgettable aroma. Even though I can’t recall its exact scent perfectly, I’m confident I’d recognize it instantly in a blindfold test.

Sadly, it’s become a forgotten strain, and as far as I know, there are almost no genuine cuttings left. There have been attempts to pheno hunt it, but in my opinion, nothing truly matches the classic, old-school Cheese we once knew.

To be fair to the blue cheese, despite having already had a lifetimes worth of it, I would have that again. I'm not so averse to it like stardawg or haze. It's cropped up on LB a few times. GC currently have blueberry cheesecake which I guess is the same stuff but with a 21st century fancy name. I've not tried it. Retro strains often go well on LB though. Durban Poison flies out when available. I'd be interested to try some properly grown skunk 1 or some white widow.

White Window and Skunk 1 are definitely classic strains, and I myself can see many more of the old school strains being a hit on LB.

Must agree with also on Haze and Stardawg. They have their place but I myself have never been a fan, especially Amenisa Haze. The high just wasn't for me personally.

Savoury i go for a classic cheese on toast. Sweet I'd go either for the perfectly named Munchies Bar or some places do Milka chocolate bars that have small Oreo biscuits on top and underneath - like a chocolate sandwich. Best I've had was blackberry and it was fire, clean strong smoke.
With Cali your paying extra for the flavour most of the time especially with alot of the strains not even being high THC strains which is a waste of money.

Thai imports have definitely changed the game offering quality at great prices. Blackberry, as you mentioned is a delightful strain, with a sweet flavor that I really enjoy. That said, I agree with you that Cali products tend to have more intense flavor profiles but also noticed that the strength of Cali imports can sometimes be a bit milder. UK, when cultivated properly can definitely stand up to the competition!

Definitely agree with this. I do believe it is due to Cali being a weed haven, so they save their best for the local population and import the not so great to the UK and elsewhere. That is not to say you can't get great cali over here, it's just not as common to come across.

The local dealers round here package the Thai in cali packs and pass it off as legit Cali. Albeit at a much lower price, so all the kids can now afford legit cali. Not surprising when you see a Kg of thai being offered imported for between £1-1.5k

I can’t fault Blazey Susan papers I believe they’re wood pulp. Nice clean taste burn nicely. My personal favourite. I tried rice papers and didn’t like them.

Wood pulp papers are something I’ve yet to try..but it’s definitely something I’m going to look into!

As for rice papers, they can be hit or miss for me, so I usually stick with hemp.

I don’t know about anybody else however I’ve recently found myself in an online relationship with biggie, can’t help but check for new things everyday usually as I’m drinking coffee. I’m sure that some sort of online media first thing is normal to some but, not me. It is the first time in my 5 decades that I’ve been able to sample so much variety and felt comfortable chatting online. Never done socials too much of a time thief and too easy to fck shit up. I think lb has opened my eyes and mind to new things.

The best advice I can give is to research a bit, check out a vendor and strain or 5 you fancy and check the reviews, bonus points if someone has gone to the effort of writing a smoke report.

Also if there is a string of 9s and 10s and a random 1 then take it with a pinch of salt. Some get too baked and mess up the numbers and some are imo fake reviews to bomb a listing (think steam when folks realise it’s a DEI sweet baby inc funded game) 🤣🤣

Okay. Before we start it's probably worth noting that I rarely order from new vendors and I've not tested any of these out. I have dabbled with new vendors in the past with mixed success rates. Some were great, some definitely weren't and many of them now don't exist on LB. Generally I order from the same reliable vendors unless I'm specifically looking for something special or something exclusive happens to catch my eye.

I guess it's also worth noting that even some usually reliable and long established vendors have either hiccups or just fall to pieces over time. So age isn't always a complete guarantee of success and happiness either.

Newbie vendors often make their mark by offering us some interesting products and wonderful bargains to tempt us away from our mainstay vendors. Some of these newbies will of course be the big vendors of the future while some will possibly not get the hang of LB.

So please remember we're all grown-up here (hard as it is to believe) and make your own choices. I admire the people who routinely roll the dice on a new vendor. The Wizard of Oz.

Only a month or so in and already flying. I have noted a few interesting bits passing through here and they seem very engaged with the community.

Amongst the loveliness would be this new batch of Blue Nerds. This strain is beautiful when done correctly. A mixed blue / silver flavour that's just divine. And this looks likely to be done to perfection. I've not tried it though. It's a pricey bit but will it be princely - see what you think.

There are some interesting products on the menu but the one that's super tempting to me personally is the White Widow x Skunk #1. I definitely wonder what old school flavours may lurk in there. It's a sort of fancy packaged American version of the familiar Moroccan hash we all know. This has my curiosity as to whether it'll be better or just the same and the price seems very fair to try. While I mostly smoke buds I do like to try various hash out. They have a few nice looking products on the menu.

Thanks man. Yeah even after a year on LB I'm still basically like a kid in a sweet shop. Too many choices! I always make my own cookies using D9 or RSO or often a mix of both. It works out super cheap to do with a premix cookie pack out of Tesco. I usually make just one or two at a time.

With exodus, is it a case of signing up for exodus wallet and then every time I buy Btc and want to buy here I buy btc on CB and then from CB ‘send’ to that exodus wallet, and then from exodus send to LB pay details for my checkout item?

Yes a random name (or even your own name I think) seems to be working for people; they don’t have the resources to check every transaction for sure. But doesn’t mean that they won’t flag you at some point and shut down your account.

I’ve always used an Exodus wallet in between (unless the fees have been really crazy but they’re low right now). Just a heads up that the mobile versions of Exodus don’t seem to let you send crypto. The desktop ones work fine.

From There to Here: A Cannabis Ramble.

The Beginning

When I started smoking pot, the UK options were various types of commercial hash or basic landrace weeds.

The mainstay hash was usually a Rocky which I believe was nicknamed from Moroccan and was a heat n crumble hash. Often we'd get a Slate which as per the name came in thin slabs which fluffed up when heated and crumbled - anyone know what the origin of that was? Squidgy Black of various but often low grades would often be available. We'd usually get red seal but gold seal and other stamps did turn up. It'd roll into snakes. Plus we'd get other basic, and often poor quality, hashes with some variations like soap bar or double zero. Often you'd find hash cut with something unpleasant like henna or plastic. Although equally you'd sometimes get a lovely treat like a temple ball.

Weed tended to be Thai sticks or similar dry stuff with more seeds and sticks in it than weed. I'd hear about sensimelia but I didn't ever see any in my town. It was all pretty basic.

This was universally true across life in that period. Channel 4 was brand new and edgy and digital watches still seemed like a pretty neat idea. It was a simpler time. You couldn't even buy fancy long rizla at Tesco.

Original 90s Hash

Honestly, if you bought the cheapest rock solid hash on LB, wrapped it in plastic, smashed it up with a hammer, then stuck it back together so the plastic was on the inside, you'd be a long way towards creating an authentic 90s hash. I don't recommend it but the option is there if you'd like to experience it. I'm hoping some old stoners will confirm to the younglings that I'm not making this up.

The Dam

During my first trip to Amsterdam my eyes were opened to a new world of cannabis. Which was ironic considering they were half shut for much of the trip. I think many of us brought back a piece of Dam with us (quite literally in my case) and the sharing of those experiences seemed to progress everything forwards. We wanted to be more Dutch.

I loved the weed out there of course but it was more than that. It was the open and tolerant culture that allowed it all to happen that really hit home for me.

Slow Progress

Although the four channel options on TV and digital watches seeming a pretty neat idea persisted for some time, we gradually got better at growing weed here until we reach the point today where we're comparable to much of the rest of the world - and now smart watches seem like a pretty neat idea instead of the digital ones.

In between then and now I've had a wide range of oddly grown weed and lack of flavours. Even as we made a bit of progression, for long periods, everyone would seem to have the same grow.

It'd be cheese, then blue cheese, with lemon haze phases, then stardawg. Variety, as a concept, seemed to take a while to bed in. There were of course highlights and exceptions but the mainstay weed was very samey for years - at least locally - and definitely below the quality and variety abroad. This period developed my loathing of lemon haze. I've simply had it one too many times.

LB Quality

Now, all these years later, I'm ordering high quality buds delivered to my door from a menu of a thousand products. The difference in the cannabis now to then is almost immeasurable.

We've got strong, tasty and exotic weed with new strains on a regular basis. We've got fresh frozen hashes and powerful extracts. We've got vapes and dab pens. We have clean D9 edibles and decarb products. It's a golden age of cannabis consumption with a bigger crowd of us than ever before. I'm excited by it - by all you loons in the LB community.

While attitudes have certainly progressed, we're still a wee bit behind when compared to the tolerant attitude to cannabis use we're seeing in the US and parts of Europe.

Channel 4 Cannabis Night

The afore mentioned Channel 4 once did a cannabis night back when they were still keen to be edgy. All night they showed a stream of cannabis TV shows which sent shockwaves through the mainstream UK of the time but was of course dynamite viewing for my generation. It felt like part of a culture shift. A line in the sand between the stagnant and repressed old folks versus the new, dynamic and hedonistic youth.

In one of the programmes it showed how a legal cannabis future might look. I remember that it showed designer prerolls in professional looking cigarette looking packets. Funnily enough even our cigarette packets don't look like that any more! It'd be an interesting clip to watch again actually.

As a 80s/90s stoner I don't think I'd have predicted how the cannabis market looks now. Firstly the sweetshop flavour names and youth-styled graphics on the packs are a naming convention and style that's a world beyond stuff like skunk and white widow. But also the products available expanded far further than I could ever have imagined. It all leaves me as wide eyed as Charlie was stepping foot into the chocolate factory.

I don't know where we go from here but it'll be fun to find out. I hope the UK will ultimately find a more tolerant and legal status for our favourite plant just like many of our friends abroad have.

Thanks man. I buy a bit of old school hash from time to time. I've currently got gold seal from green cat. Lovely stuff. Much better than back in the day but still got the nostalgic flavour. Best of both worlds!

Great post, Roo - definitely takes me back. My local plug had some very mediocre squidgy black for ages in the mid-90's and couldn't seem to get anything else. I was actually excited when he told me there was some soapbar on the way.

I remember the first time I got some good homegrown too, it was a revelation. Silver Haze, knocked my socks off with half a j.

I still have a soft spot for hash, maybe because it's all I could get for so long, but there are so many more choices now as you say. I do love a nice bit of clean blonde 'pollen' hash though, can't beat that for a nostalgic daytime smoke. 🫠

Thanks man. I mostly smoke weed but I'm very partial to a hash smoke for a bit of variety. I still often buy commercial or fancy hash and I'm fascinated with the process of making it. I favour the dark squidgy stuff now - the opposite to 90s Roo. I'll have to do another hash run and write up at some point.

Great read mate took me right back, "Pot Night" on channel 4 most of it is on YouTube if you need a rabbit hole to fall down. I remember watching it all and then thinking, why is this illegal 🤔 30 years later and I still don't have a reasonable answer.

Picking plastic out of the hash was just part of the process of skinning up, I don't miss that.
We had slate bars that would split like slate stone does, we also had some flat pressed hash that was called slate but didn't split like slate stone and smoked like rocky.

Who knows where we go from here as far as progress but I can imagine if I had seen a rosin press and had a dab of hash rosin in the 90's, my mind would have literally been blown🤯.

While I definitely enjoy modern products I do often have nostalgia smokes. Currently I have the gold seal from green cat that's genuinely one of my favourite current lb products. It's not that strong although it is decent. But it's that old distinct flavour that I've been loving rolled up with some weed. I'm going to buy more with my next order.

I've just ordered some hash rosin for my dab pen. It's a world away from picking plastic out of hash!

Aye. That's a fair point. I don't think anyone wants the youngsters future going up in a puff of smoke. I believe that statistically speaking, since legalisation in the US, the main group of people to increase smoking pot have been an older generation. And it looks like many either replace or supplement other pain or stress meds. So I'm not sure that in a real world situation the candy floss marketing has drawn kids in. But it's fair to say it's the exact sort of thing that's asking for more trouble than it's probably worth.

Seems daft now but as you say me and a few mates felt all subversive and excited to be watching WEED on TV? Oh yeah! I remember it had a few US PSA clips from the 60/70’s? Something along the lines of: “Remember kids, too much pot and you risk wasting the most precious time of your life” said in a long drawn out way by the long haired, half eyes closed, rictus grinned, stoned to the rafters, sideburned youth. Without any irony!
The attached image is copy of Face magazine from 93. Unlike prevalence nowadays any stories/pictures of weed had to come from magazines. Oh the innocence!

The channel 4 night felt definitive. I bet it influenced all sorts of folk who went on to be the movers and shakers of the cannabis market. I first went to Dam in 1989 I think as a teenager. It still had the gilder so everything was super cheap due to exchange rate. It was all about the skunk weed back then and you'd get a green skuff hash. I keep thinking about heading out again to see how it's changed.

Back in the 90's I worked with Heineken and we would go out to the Dam regularly on business. On the very first trip they put the meeting back to the afternoon so to kill time we ventured into a cafe for a brownie and coffee. On arrival at the brewery they decided to orientate us by putting us on their famous London red double decker bus that they used for tourists. Off our noodles this quickly became the most surreal of experiences. I was convinced I wasn't in the Dam at all and that I was on my way to school (having taken a red bus twice a day back then). The fact that I was wearing a collar and tie reinforced this for me. A colleague was freaking out because he couldn't work out why he was so high up (top deck) and kept asking if he was floating or flying? Another was convinced he ws somehow going to fall off and was gripping the seat edges so tightly I still remember how white his knuckles were!

Those were the days!!

There's nothing like your first visit to Dam. I guess the quality gap is no longer the same so tourists don't experience it the same. On my first trip I remember it was a super busy street on the way to the coffee shop. I was battling my way through crowds Couple of hours later I bowled out and after walking a short way I became aware I had the middle of the street to myself. Everyone was loitering at the sides. Then I realised it was absolutely pelting it down with rain. I was the only person stupid enough not to realise and stand in the middle of it completely oblivious. I then had to find my hotel, at which point I was soaked through and realised how lost I was. But I didn't want anyone to know I was lost so I carried on walking confidently like I knew where I was going because that made sense to me.

Got a 10/10 boys 2g vape couple days ago, first day was initially banging so i rated 10/10. Clogged by the second day then has somehow completely emptied itself over night last night... was left stood up right turned off and over 1g of oil has magically vaped itself dry... also feels like oil is coming out from behind the power button... feels like a complete waste of money I must've had less than 100 puff and would now rate it very low. This specific vape to be clear, not the vendor or brand

10/10 vapes empty are a massive online seller - I think even when a vendor thinks or has done their best to avoid counterfeit I don’t think I’ve ever had one that was genuine, leaking, blocking turning themselves on or dodgy coils let alone what’s inside the vape itself just as important

Would like to +1 YMH, £160 for a Oz (2 1/2s), which I have seen some sellers sell similar quality at another 40+ quid at least. Superb packaging and from what I have tried (so far), the best "budget" bud on biggy. Will likely be getting more next week and trying the £190 oz bundle option!

We have shatter/distillate carts. I'm afraid they're very weedy though.

But, if you're okay with smoking PG (some are, some aren't, dont murder me!) then you should get some flavour concentrates and add it to distillate. Pure PG concentrated flavour mixes with distillate just fine. I've made some up for PERSONAL use and they're so damn tasty it's like sucking on a lollypop. I made a suggestion in a topic of making those carts (with PG) and a mob formed, so it's up to you. If you already vape nicotine vapes, I don't see the harm.

My New Year's Resolution for 2025 is -

As we reflect upon the past year and countdown to the new one it's customary to get completely spangled and propose a radical shift in your life that you have no real long term intention of committing to once your brain is back at it's regular capacity to function. This year though I think I've come up with something manageable.

So, in the style of a reality TV show announcement, my new years resolution for 2025 is... [add tense music] [extensive pause] is... [additional long pause] is... [one more pause for added tension] is... [deep breath] is... to keep getting stoned. We have a winner.

It's predictably more business as usual than an actual resolution but I like smoking weed and it helps with pain. I'd like to claim it's medicinal use only but I definitely enjoy blazing far too much to fully convince anyone of that. However, as resolutions go, I've a high chance of sticking to this one.

So What's for 2025?

I'll likely keep picking at Green Cats bud menu. It's hard to fault price or quality with some truly exceptional bits popping up regularly.

Orange is Nice

However, the one flaw in the GC menu, as well as many other vendors offerings, is a lack of Orange flavours. There's Gelato or Kush crossed with everything but, in my opinion, a lack of Orange.

I get that I'm quite lonely in my Orange Bud Fanclub but I'm not completely alone. There are others. Mimosa is not the only orange strain either so LB vendors please open your hearts and your shops to the orangeness ticket. List it and they will come. Possibly. Don't quote me on that. They might not come. I'm copying a line from a film. It's probably a poor indicator for weed vending. Blame Kevin if in fact they don't come.

What Else?

I missed getting Piatella from The Hash Collective at Xmas as I'd overspent already when it came online so I'd hope to pick some of that up and some top spec WPFF hash as well later in the year - is it the strongest stuff ever? It's a question worth exploring.

I Am Old

I've really enjoyed having some old school gold seal over Xmas from GC for that taste of nostalgia. It's a perfect example of that old sticky black hash and probably much nicer than back in the day while retaining the essential essence of the past. Yes, it won't hit you like a cold cure jungle boys hash or a barz LA but it's still a lovely enjoyable smoke. So I expect some further old school sessions throughout the year when I see an old man's product listed and can't help but take a stumble down stoner memory lane.

You CAN Teach an Old Dog New Tricks

I'll likely update my dabbing equipment and also my vape this year. I'm liking these modern devices and chilling out like a cool kid. I'll probably try some other carts this year too although I'm less convinced by these.

More Extracts

I'll be on the lookout for the tastiest and smoothest extracts at decent prices of course. I still like a bargain. Currently I favour wax in my dab pen but I should probably experiment more.

What About Edibles?

I'll definitely continue on with my RSO and D9 cookies. That's the theme this evening in fact. It's hard to beat when you really want to be blasted into space. Which I do.

I've actually got a new recipe for cookies that I'll likely write about in the new year. It started when I didn't have a cookie mix packet so I listed the stuff I did have in the cupboard onto Chat GPT and asked it how to make cookies with it. So AI can even help you get baked it turns out. It really will take over the world one day.

For me, it's an underused flavour. I think some people are really averse to Orange the way I avoid almost every haze though (silver bubble is an exception for some reason).

Miami looks interesting and is a bit of a mystery strain on leafly. Might be tempted in the future but I ordered some Cherry this morning from GC. Has direct genetic line through Tangie to California orange so -might- have my favoured orange flavouring in there.
