why "just use a vpn" misses the point

in response to my last post about the recent online safety act, that has been passed and is slowly being placed into effect.

"Just use a vpn"
Although true that a vpn does get past these restrictions, heres why its misses the point of why these types of legislation are bad.

1. Convenience - This makes staying secure online less convenient which hurts the ability fot secure alternatives to become mainstream.

2. Security - Linking your online activity to your ID can have major consequences in the event of a data breach, which happen a lot, or a subpoena against a company, even if you are not an activist or journalist and just a random joe shmoe, the ability to share information securely and privately protects our most important from our most corrupt.

3. Control - This allows government organizations to have control over the general population, here's some examples;
- Journalist exposing them? Block the post and show propaganda instead.
- Don't like a particular minority? Just filter through all that ID data for them, because it cant be used against you until it is right?

4. Confidence - Allowing this type of legislation with no backslash (no matter how insignificant to the people your confronting) shows other nations and future officials that this type of behavior is okay and the people won't fight you publicly on it.
- This is really important with Australia, the US, the EU and canada pushing for similar legislation

! but "its only on adult sites" !
this is just not true, as per the UK official statement this effects anything from yes adult sites, to popular fourms, to social media, to wikipedia.
places like wikpedia, urban dead and hundreds of local fourm communities are in deep waters or shutdown because of this act.

this does still effect you, unless you want to cut everyone out your life who are not as technologically inclined as you.
Big tech already collects info on you from your friends/family allows it access contacts, or from messaging you on insecure apps, or from posting a picture you all took last week online on an insecure platform.
so whats stops a government or rouge bad actor group from just finding your family's information and using that to find you? Esp my US biggas this is public knowledge I can find in 5 minutes.
you may keep yourself safe, but are the people you communicate with keeping themselves safe?

There is another way of looking at this:

-Using the internet before this legislation and without a VPN renders you as a product whether you like to admit it or not. Search engines are free for a reason. Social media is free for a reason. Reddit is free for a reason. If you are not paying for a product then you are the product. Every single time we accept cookies to browse online we are the product. That is our connected lives. we surrender our private information in the form of metadata every single day of our lives. Its a trade off that we blank our minds to and it has become increasingly insidious as our feeds become doctored to our data.

-If as a result of this legislation you are now using a VPN you have considerably reduced this effect. This is a good thing.

Being connected still comes with risks though and we should do our best to mitigate them and to be alert. But hell, those cat videos are cute though huh?

I don't trust the government as a whole but I feel enough outcry will make some people in this or other governments think twice about this type of behavior.

mate, this isnt basic info.
this is requiring validation of an official government id showing your full name, address, dob, id number, sex, nationality and anything else they may show depending on the id you use.

Sites have not been doing that and the few that do, I am strongly against using and suggest you never use.
my only exception to this has been a crypto exchange because once I move my xmr out and reroute it, its very unlikely itll be traced back to me but even so I really really hate the fact I use kyc

technically this site also falls under scrutiny and to be compliant with the law they should ID validate everyone who visits the site from the UK and the future australia, the US, canada and the EU.

no this wont cause lb to shutdown, this site is illegal in the uk either way.

this does not just effect uk citizens either, canada, the states, and the european union are all pushing for similar verification.

this undermines your ability to use the internet securely and privately.
this allowed government figures to track and single out individuals for how they act and where they visit online.

if a regime came into power with negative ideals of any kind, this easily allows them to shutdown negative press, target and discriminate against people by their online activity, deanonymize journalists and whistleblowers which in a lot of cases means they get killed, just to name a few use cases.

! this type of legislation WILL revoke our ability to a free internet and free society !

So I did the route where the Dr's medicated me, honestly don't put yourself through that. I found I felt focused but other aspects I was less focused, my anger levels were through the roof and I could flip over the most minor stuff! I've now been clear of meds for around 7-8 months now. I have dabbled a bit in shrooms, had some messages come through (I don't know whether that was my subconscious talking to me). I still find day to day stuff a struggle but who doesn't, am I right?

I keep seeing some ads for adhd apps which can help, they add routine to your life which it seems you are lacking. Drink plenty of water, exercise (I should do this myself) read, learn a new skill.

One of my mains struggles as an adhd adult is a lot of the advice given to me involved doing what I enjoy, which is where my issue came. I had gotten to a point where I didn't know what I enjoyed anymore, some days I still don't. That's a difficult hurdle to overcome or at least it was for me!

My partner and I are both ADHD (my partner possibly AuDHD)

I'm medicated with amphetamines, my partner not.

I find the meds helpful - they help me most in regulating my emotions more than I am able to do on my own. I find I'm more patient, more able to organise, and calmer.

My partner self medicates with green, but it doesn't really do much for him (from my perspective) other than making him feel less anxious.

I've been considering looking into l-tyrosine supplements (also called l-dopa) as these are the initial building blocks of dopamine in the brain. Might also try adding l-tryptophane as well, for a serotonin boost.

Sleep, for me, is the most important thing. Regular, good, long enough sleep. If you've got poor sleep hygiene, I'd suggest starting there to see if you can help yourself feel better without meds or chemicals.

Best of luck to you, friend. It ain't easy out there.

I took lytosine it helped me short term and also becopa helped but after a couple months benefits seemed to stop, have managed to buy some modafinil from a website which helped me as well for a bit but been waiting 3 years to get seen when I was on ADHD meds as a kid and now mid 30s , life was eye opening and upsetting how well methelthedrate helped my mind when I had the chance to try again a few years ago just a waiting game and hoping they will help me

Hi bud I myself live with adhd and was prescribed stimulant meds but it was not long before I stopped taking them as they did not help my adhd, I would struggle to sleep and they were meant to help me to relax when all they did was made me buzzy. They also affected my Sex life and not in a good way if you know what I mean 😉.

i know how bad this is to hear, but literally anything you take every day will stop working sooner or later and now you still have adhd but now a drug problem too. drugs are a terrible way to address any chronic problem, a real last resort - they can be a good way to chill out for a bit if you're exhausted or if you just need a change of perspective, and they're certainly cheaper than five star hotels - but don't underestimate how long cannabis tolerance can take to fade or how much even a mild dependence (if you have a tolerance, you have a dependence) can disrupt your life, especially sleep, especially if you are adhd. learn to live with neurodiversity (there is some good advice in other people's comments - don't eat sugar or processed food much), then get high now and again for a break from having to - that's my advice, although how relevant it is for you i have no idea. also, t breaks need to be looong. if you have a high tolerance, really looong. thc gets dissolved in the fat in your body and takes ages to leech back out. you'll see what i mean.

whatever it ends up taking, you'll get the hang eventually and life'll get a lot easier. honestly, you'll already feel a lot better after a t break. do it now.

Diagnosed mixed type at 38 in February. Still titrating. Concerta XL had minimal effects apart from making me sweat excessively.
About to start Elvanse in the next day or two.
Hoping for improvement from elvanse or else I will probably just got MC route.

I'm Audhd and officially unmedicated, gf is adhd and medicated but that has all been private cos of the waiting list. She finds it really helps her, and I've known others it has worked for but also there are lots who find it doesn't work so well for them.

I don't really have an awful lot of advice other than chase up the place that you're waiting for, and ask to be put on cancellations list or whatever it is called so they call you if someone cancels their appointment.

I’m on elvanse now and it’s a lysdexamphetamine which is the greatest thing I’ve ever tried. Now I’m totally focused all the time and so much calmer when I’m not on it because there’s no build up of that adhd mental exhaustion. If you get offered that eventually take it. But speed does the exact same job, it’s literally the same thing so if you know a whizz guy that’s the best thing. So says all the science

Before I goty meds I found cutting out sugar makes a HUGE difference. Smoke wise I like a 50/50 or sativa dominant. Stardawg and Blue Dream worked best for me but any lemon strain is ideal. Red seal hash is probably my biggest tip, it’s perfect for calm and focus in the day and is prettty cheap. Hashman did have some but he’s not showing up on LB for me for some reason so I can’t check for you sorry.

Ideally you need a higher CBD level in your smoke.

For sleep a heavy indica with a high thc content is the only option. I use northern lights to sleep but hard to get so I’m smoking Titanic hash atm from Green Avenger. Very strong and really settles my head at night. Great seller and great value. One of my favourites

Before I was diagnosed and began medication I used to use modafinal. It wasn’t perfect but def helped. I’d use it when I really needed to get shit done.
I’m on elvanse with a dex top up. I’m still titrating. It’s a mixed bag if I’m honest. I’m female and where I am in my cycle impacts the effectiveness. I can lock into a task if I start it. Otherwise I just lock into on fucking about. My sleep is shit. I use weed for that and to try chill me enough that my brain lets me watch tv. I’ve found it to be a bit trial and error but when my meds work they’re good. When they don’t, it’s a shit show. Initially I could feel like kick in like a bump. But not now. I dunno if that fucks with your head and makes you think they’re not working.

It’s surprising that LB doesn’t have a built-in currency selector for price conversions—at least, none that I’m aware of. To fix this, I developed a workaround using two custom userscripts via Violentmonkey on Firefox.

1. The first script applies a slightly conservative conversion rate, intentionally lower than the live market rate to cover crypto fees. It’s less accurate for large amounts (like £100+), but it automatically converts LB prices to GBP and displays the USD amount in brackets for quick double-checks. You can find it here:

Despite the current issues with TransAxe I just want to say thanks again to the LB team for even making this service possible. It might seem really annoying right now as you might've missed the shipping cut-off for your order yesterday, but just remember 10-15 years ago we couldn't have even dreamed of something like this even existing. It's so incredibly easy to get what you want now, and there's an incredible variety of products at an incredible speed.

It takes me more time to figure out what I definitely want to order and what I'm slightly less fussed about than it does for me to get the BTC, send it to my wallet and buy whatever my heart desires. And if you're not happy you can always get in touch with the seller and/or get a refund! Search the sativas on leafly app, pick a few you like the sound of then copy the search to lb.. see who's got what or similar... but green cat always has some good clean sativa leaning strains as does the green team.
Power plant Is one of the ultimate sativas @100% but very rare these days. Another decent one is : Durban Poisen which sometimes pops up on lb. White widow is sativa dominant and another is Jet fuel. 👍

Sativa/indica is a bit of a misconception, was caused by two different people seeing the plants in different environments a long time ago and calling them two different things. If your looking for something to rattle your brain just go for highest THC (I ask chatgpt to help me choose between strains). Sativa and indica started out as names for cannabis from different parts of the world, and the original landrace varieties do have real genetic differences. But even among those, the chemical profiles aren’t clearly divided, both can have high THC, CBD, or similar terpene content. Correct me if im wrong but ive always believed that the difference between indica and sativa effects was down to the terpenes ,not THC strength,For example limonene will have an uplifting effect and be energising ,as will pinene, that also increases alertness,where as myrcene will have a sedative effect and will cause couchlock as will linalool.If your looking for a "Wide awake" weed then shop around for strains containing pinene , limonene and other energy enhancing terpenes Hazes for example will give you that "pick me up effect" fantastic for daytime use,I hope this helps ,enjoy the sunshine X

Correct that it's the chemo type responsible for the effects along with the users disposition. What I / the data says is that's there's no clear chemo type for indica and sativa and that there's a lot of variation, and that any differences have been lost to interbreeding also.

I'll also add that it's predominantly down to THC and that CBD levels could potentially modulate the response. More research required, and on other cannabinoids. To put it simply if you took the THC out of you indica or sativa there would be essentially no effect beyond placebo in terms of psychoactivty.

Just reaching out to see whether anyone has, or can recommend, something herbal to smoke with a 1:1 ratio of THC/CBD. (UK based).

I used to be a regular smoker but nowadays it doesn't agree with me if it's too strong, which most weed is these days.

I'm looking for something that will help relieve chronic back pain/arthritis but that won't blow my head off and will allow me to function.

Exactly this! I have been doing it for a while. I never wanted to research what reactions are caused adding salt to isopro though, I just hold my breath and shake. Sparkly clean every time. I tried doing it with water, but it just dissolved the salt, so I am assuming there is little to no reaction with alcohol as the salt doesn't dissolve.

Run it under a really hot tap so most of the worst melts off, then a few squirts of iso in a spray bottle and rinse. Takes 30 seconds

So, here’s the crack (not literally), the head shop round the corner from me has set up a place for medical users to go, socialise and have a brew.

They don’t sell it, they don’t buy it, but they do provide all the equipment necessary to medicate.

All they’ve done is jump through a loop hole, there is no reason any establishment can’t do it. All you have to do is allow vaping on premises, that is it. It would be illegal for any establishment that allows vaping, to stop you vaping your medical cannabis. They would have to ban vaping in their establishment all together.

Please, work the system, I believe it is the duty of every stoner to jump through this loose loop hole.

“I can’t afford it”, yes you can, it’s now £10 a month and the cheapest bud (which isn’t that bad) is £60 for 10gs.

“I don’t have a condition that qualifies”, invent one. Go to your doctor’s with a bad back, ask for pain relief and physio. Hey presto, you qualify, as long as it is on your medical records.

“I work in a role that will not let me take it”, then your employer are discriminating you under the disability act. I work in a very sensitive industry and found myself being rewarded with a 2x 3 month breaks (all expenses paid) holiday, while they investigated. Zero hour contractors, be cautious, they will fuck you off for a different reason to save hassle. Put feelers out and don’t make a move until you’re 100%

Let’s win this fucking war, once and for all!

Ps, the setup my headshop has is fucking lit, staff are ace and accommodating. Vibe is as you’d expect.

The vape and headshops setting up those sort of locations is pretty awesome. I used to live near someone who setup a CBD and hemp product shop.
They had a nightmare for a while with the local constabulary, but they had set up a booth/lounge area in their shop for the vapers.

The medical route is something everyone should try to get onto if possible. I'm in the process of getting diagnosed for some conditions anyhow, but will be heading in that direction. My only concern is, the only stuff I hear about med bud, is that is pretty low quality.

Quality is subjective really and it does vary- you can change supplier. What you won't get is the kind of choice you are used to here and of course its not cheap. It can also be subject to delays and OOS at times. I qualify for the medical route but because I generally don't need to vape in public I can't see any great benefit...

Travelling with medical cannabis can mean jumping a lot of hurdles depending on the destination country, airline etc. Scrips won't post out of the UK that I am aware of. Things might ease up in the future though...

To feed this demand, bulk oil manufacturers seek out lower-quality weed, much of it contaminated, to buy at discounted rates.

To meet state screening limits, the extracted oils, or distillates, are blended to dilute pesticides.

One manufacturer who solicits farmers for “dirty” weed defended the practice, saying he provided struggling growers an income source while keeping otherwise unusable cannabis out of the landfill.

The amber-colored bulk oil moves on an opaque market, traded by brokers who operate without license or regulation. It is bought by manufacturers who sometimes will use oil from the same batches to fill thousands of vape cartridges for competing brands.

the shift from making quality goods that won't kill your customers whilst making an honest and fair profit, to making the lowest possible quality goods that barely pass regulations whilst making extortionate levels of profit happened so quickly in the past decade that it almost feels like it happened overnight

the exact same thing is happening with hash, vapes, edibles, flower, extracts on an impossibly large scale

the same can be said for every industry, fruit and veg is considerably lower quality now whilst being more expensive, same with all foods and drinks, same with clothes, shoes, electronics and appliances, cars, bikes, buildings, houses, everything you can imagine

considerably lower quality with a shamelessly inflated price, everywhere you look and we're all just going to bend over and accept it as the new normal because what is the alternative

So it's been a couple of weeks and still nothing has really happened as far as coming up with a solution to bring some stability in the pricing for the buyers and vendors, and now that the dollar to pound conversion rate has very very quickly hit it's worst rate on record, and it's clearly showing no signs of slowing down, what are we going to do about this?

one final thing i would like to add biggas that a lot of you probably wouldn't have even seen at the time, or joined long after, but about 2 years ago, before we had initiatives, i was very outspoken about the fact that the BTC prices on here used to be only set in 5 digits, for example 0.0050BTC, and with the instability of BTC, this lead to us never being able to actually pay the correct amount for our orders (0.0057464BTC < how prices look now) often having to pay way more than the order is worth because we didn't have the correct amount of decimal places, this was hugely frustrating and it was costing everyone a fortune, and after making topic after topic screaming at the top of my lungs about how much we need extra decimal places and then out of nowhere with no explanation we were finally given this much needed change when LB went under it's overhaul a couple years back! i wanted to end on that, for the biggas that thought that i'm just bitching, i'm not, i poured so much energy into those topics to benefit all of us, the amount of money that we have all saved since the decimal place change would have surpassed the hundreds of thousands of £ quite some time ago, just like the change i'm asking for now, it's going to save so many people so much money at a time when we coudn't possibly need it more.

FOR - Despite the complete collapse of the £ it is still the most stable currency to use because 95% of buyers and sellers are in UK and the £ is the currency we use. This means that a listing of £100 will always be £100 today, tomorrow, next week if its still listed at £100 then you will still pay £100 - this is stability. A $100 listing is £76 then £78 then £82 then £86 then £90 now it's £95even though its still listed unchanged at $100 - that is instability.

Sellers don't want to adjust their prices every day depending on international markets that have no baring on their business.

FOR - preferably stable coin, then theirs no issues with payment release dates of 16days for vendors who are then stuck in huge currency fluctuations and this year alone has seen at least 3 occasions of the escrows halving in value within that 16 day period.

It does not make sense, not with the pressures of staying stealth and not being caught by the bizzes we now have to have a degree in economics just to make sure have enough to pay our supplier's in 2 weeks for the reload or have enough money for fuel etc.

The world is at a financial knife edge and if this does not get sorted some poor vendors going to be getting a hiding or 2 from some pissed off supplier who wants their money the plain facts.

100% behind this initiative but sadly I think the site owners don't care. They posted last week about prioritising things behind the scenes. I've not once seen a feature the community has asked for implemented here. I get the feeling the site is run part time by a small group. I know of other marketplaces that have even the most basic of features... dated posts, search features, pages that don't take minutes to load if they have more than 200 topics on them. I can get over the dated posts and loading times but I can't get over the prices. The other place I buy from has lots of flower variety (shit for carts and edibles etc) but flower has always been £37.50 for eighths and doesn't change. It think the LB staff maybe reached the limit of their abilities. Simple functions that any other online marketplace in the world has, the LB staff don't to have the knowledge/time/tools to implement.

Altough, tbh, as vendors we should be price checking ourselves and our competition regularly anyway. Or, our customers would give us a nudge I'm sure.

At the same time, the best addition to this site would be both the currency prices, and the ability to settle funds, both customer>vendor and vendor>customer direct on the site.

I've not once seen a feature the community has asked for implemented her. I get the feeling the site is run part time but a small group. I know of other marketplaces that have even the most basic of features... dated posts, search features, pages that don't take minutes to load if they have more than 200 topics on them. I can get over the dated posts and loading times but I can't get over the prices. The other place I buy from has lots of flower variety (shit for carts and edibles etc) but flower has always been 37.50 for eighths and doesn't change. It stink of incompetence now on the LB staffs part

It has been noted but the issue is the dev work that needs to be done is a fairly big job that from what I am gathering hasn’t got much incentive.

for newer biggas that are unsure of the context of some of the replies in this topic, it was created over a year ago when not only did we still have the same problem of literally being robbed by fees, but we also had the problem of every single dollar costing 92p, rather than the 81p it is now which made every single order considerably more expensive for absolutely no reason other than the site being set to the wrong currency for it's customer base

over a year later, all these votes, and we still have all the same problems apart from those same problems essentially being worse than they were a year ago due to cost of living crisis etc,

all these problems could and should have been solved over a year ago

the outcome of resolving these problems means everyone has more money to buy more weed and everyone wins in every possible way

Not gonna lie I would love to save money being on the side of the buyers however, I do feel the conversion rate inflation we feel is balanced by the loss the vendors can take in BTC. It seems like a harmony that is keeping this site going...even if only barely. I will add that if BTC has a nice rise than vendors should reduce their prices accordingly.

there are a lot of terrible therapists out there. most of them are bad or mediocre. I'm quite sure that an AI therapist would be at least as good, if not better, than many of them.

I doubt that AI therapy is anything like as good as seeing a great human therapist. but perhaps many people don't need a great therapist, they just need an adequate one. for them, AI is likely to suffice.

I don't feel freedom is being able to do what you want. To me it seems as if freedom is more about being ok with what happens, being free in ones mind to allow reality to be as it is, being ok with the unknown. Freedom, in the absolute sense, would require absolute control of reality, which we do not nor will ever have. There is no such thing as absolute freedom in a meat body.

However, if one is free within themselves, it doesn't much matter what happens in life. Example, I go to the supermarket and buy food for my children. If there were a global collapse of the food systems we currently rely on, and I am free, I will move through this more gracefully than if I am mentally bound to the fact that I have been supplied with food for little to no effort my entire life. Does that make sense? Kitty, that you talk about, is likely free. They take what you give them and enjoy it, but if you drop dead and the food supply runs out, they will either get out to the world and learn to hunt, or eat you. They are free in that respect. As are we, if we choose it.

How much do you lot usually put in a spliff? Me and the Mrs were wondering because when I first met her, she used to put basically nothing in—might as well have been smoking fresh air! Now she’s an A-star changer, rolling up is still an issue tho !. Curious to see what everyone else does! Then Also It Encourages you to make fatter js that Just start getting more juicy and flavorful And somehow smoother the fatter you get. You do have to perfect the art of rolling a bit to truly appreciate it. Fine grind, Nice tight and even and you shouldn't go far wrong💚✌️

I only smoke little single skinners, about 10 a day. I reckon I put .2 to .3 of a gram in maybe less. I like strong joints but I make them small. I buy mostly strong hash and there's simply no benefit to smoking anymore than that as you won't get any higher. I see a lot of younger crew rolling big fat show ponies then drop em in the ashtray after a few puffs and cough thier guts up for the next half hr. I think what a waste of weed just to have a big doofer on show then dribble on yourself.

Not sure about cex.io or it's legitimacy but there will definitely be a way to withdraw your funds.

Look for a 'withdraw' or 'send' button.

Paybis, Coinbase, Kraken all work, they all require ID though.

If you'd rather not provide ID then HodlHodl works but it is a bit more expensive.
