Thc is a psychotic and cbd is antipsychotic. I think having zero cbd in you cannabis and having an underlying mental health condition isn’t a healthy combination. For everyone else , I doubt we will go nuts;)

Interesting, I've heard this before. I'm sure research is still pretty embryonic but unless we lift prohibition we're unlikely to fully understand why cannabis does what it does.

There are people though who do suffer with psychosis which needs to be addressed as well..

I don't know all the facts and figures but I do believe the ratio of who gets some form of serious psychosis to those who don't is very low.

I believe this just provides more evidence that cannabis should be legalised. This is so proper advice can be given to those who suffer with some form of mental illness and the correct dosage can be given if its right for them :)

Yeah well put. There's high risk in all manner of things we take for granted and really its down to the likelihood of risk to users rather than the severity of the worse case scenario.

Less than half a percent of the population suffer from psychosis and even fewer of those numbers are down to cannabis use (not to mention that alcohol-induced psychosis is very much a thing too!)

Under legalisation millions more people would consume cannabis which would inevitably lead to an increase in psychosis *but* the numbers would still likely be lower than most other psychological afflictions + the numbers could be somewhat offset by the benefits of cannabis experienced by many users.

Having an excessively risk averse attitude towards policy-making can actually cause more problems in many cases. The fact that North America has woken up to this before us is hilarious.

It's a media buzzword/phrase, but it's not a myth. It's the inevitable by-product of prohibition.

Since the US stepped up its war on drugs, the old ways of importing outdoor weed (mostly Mexican, for US... hash for Europe) were clamped down on.

When cannabis cultivation got pushed indoors, we effectively had more intensive cultivation - looking to develop as much THC as possible within a small space. Potency became the main objective of seed breeding and the whole thing became more sophisticated.

Similarly, during alcohol prohibition - people were opting for spirits (and moonshine) rather than beers and wine.

It's entirely possible that in a decriminalised or legalised situation, consumers might actually opt for less 'high strength'. But in the meantime it makes better business sense for the black market to offer the highest potency possible - potency is still regarded by most as an indicator of quality.

Funny you should mention prohibition because just as that was coming to an end Harry Jacob Anslinger started running The Bureau of Prohibition. When that disbanded he took over Federal Bureau of Narcotics and set his sights on marijuana. He had Congress make it illegal, his case rested on two fantastical assertions: that the drug caused insanity and that it pushed people toward horrendous acts of criminality. Others at the time argued that it was fiercely addictive. He then started a propaganda campaign using medical Dr's to make the lies 'real'. The real truth was that Mexicans used it so making cannabis illegal made it easier for them to arrested and deport innocent Mexicans. Here's one of the propaganda posters.

I enjoy thinking about cannabis (also tea, coffee for example) from that perspective. We cultivate these plants to suit some form human utility so there is a strong argument that, as you say, prohibition has effectively shaped the evolution of cannabis to make us 'more stoned'.

On the other hand I question what that means. Does a botanist really have access to that information? Surely these things are highly subjective and selecting for them in a plant is extremely difficult? In other words; a grower might smoke one of their plants and think "this is more potent", but does that reflect an objective truth about potency or more about the subjective 'taste' of the grower?

Strange comparison but it reminds me of the eugenics debate that unravelled throughout the 19th & 20th Century - people really believed intelligence was quantifiable in such a way that we could select for it via human breeding. The reality is far more complex! There are different forms of intelligence which are culturally and environmentally specific and don't neatly fit onto a global continuum.

Potency is a product of the user, the environment and the plant working symbiotically. What we consider 'high strength skunk cannabis' (in my opinion) is really a manifestation of American breeding programmes (1960's-) which hybridised a diverse range of plants from around the world with varying 'potency', resin production, resistance to disease etc. As you mentioned, America's political influence has also shaped our perception of the plant as well.

Almost every long term study shows daily users are at an increased risk of psychosis and the stronger the weed the higher the risk. It cannot be ruled out that people at high risk of psychosis are more likely to become daily weed users, but that's a pretty difficult experiment to figure out.

Out of interest, what do you mean by 'cleaner' or 'more clinical'?

I have two relatives who suffered from cannabis-induced psychosis. From the outside it looked like any other drug 'addiction' cycle in the sense that they smoked more, their tolerance increased, the drug became associated with almost all aspects of their waking life etc. I personally think their psychosis wasn't caused primarily by the strength of the cannabis per se but with *how* they were using it (method, frequency etc).

sometimes I feel almost lucky that they chose to self-medicate with cannabis rather than heroin or alcohol because, as your second point suggests, I always felt there was always some inevitability about their substance abuse and thankfully both are still with us. On the other hand I have taken a whole load of drugs throughout my life but never abused them - it's the 'abuse' bit that is often ignored with cannabis in my opinion.

Hard to explain the 'clean' and 'clinical' thing. When I smoke some good quality durban poison (for example) the effect reminds me of a low dose of mushrooms - temperamental, psychedelic, pensive and can send you on a bad trip if you're unlucky. Cali packs on the other hand don't alter my perceptions so much as they just sedate me like a valium. I'm massively generalising, but that is probably some way towards explaining what i meant.

That strength is secondary to frequency is borne out by the evidence (and my experience), but it is still a factor.
Also, I find distilate for instance to be a pretty flat high compared to the weed it came from despite being so much stronger, which I think is kinda what you're saying?

It's a factor that would surely be mitigated by ending prohibition? Better understanding about what constitutes strength (because research would be easier to conduct) + more consumer choice regarding strains etc + new technologies which could enable us to consume cannabis in different ways which may mitigate some of the negative effects (hypothetically!)

I'm not a particularly conspiratorially minded person but I do think there is some truth in a lot of what you say. The researcher I mentioned in the original post did talk about the link between psychosis and urbanisation and I totally agree with you that the elevated 'social' risks that comes with cities can probably lead to quite specific psychological problems. Cannabis seems like an unnecessary scapegoat when you think about the bigger picture.

I obviously have skin in the game so my opinion may be biased, but i would be careful what you wish for in terms of legalisation.

In the states in many cases large corporations are squeezing smaller artisan growers out of the business. Once these corporations gain the majority market share inevitably (as always happens in these cases) the price goes up and the quality goes down. Not to mention the taxes the government will put on weed, which will be astronomical.

Eventually a 'grey' market is created where registered growers sell directly to customers rather than to dispensaries, which is essentially what already exists on here. The difference is that sellers on here could easily raise their prices if the 'legal' weed is hyper expensive due to taxes and corporate profits.

If you want to watch a documentary which covers this subject, along with many others, try ‘Murder Mountain’ on Netflix. It’s fantastic. There’s one particular episode that goes into detail about the legalisation process, the beurocracy and red tape that comes with it, how it negatively affects growers in Humbolt County, and eventually negatively impacts consumers.

Bottom line is nothing good ever comes from multinational businesses getting their teeth into things like cannabis, which as sure as the nose on my face they will if it becomes fully legal. Next thing you know people will be buying shitty weed from the Apple Store for £100 a gram.

Personally, I think there is plenty of room for dual markets - i.e. artisanal & mass market - like with most consumables. Quality is always going to come at a premium, with or without prohibition. The UK is much smaller & left-leaning than the States so things like grower collectives could be much easier to organise. Tax is one of the best arguments for legalisation in my opinion... imagine modernising the social care system with all that revenue!

I think your point about grey markets is well made, I can imagine a situation where incredibly restrictive laws are put in place to stop grassroots marketplaces like LB existing. That would be something to avoid. Perhaps a more coffee shop style system would be better than dispensaries? i.e. 'from farm-to-table', but for weed?

Im now a legal patient who has THC flower prescribed and it’s fucking brilliant. The flower isn’t best I’ve had but believe me I’ve had a lot worse.

If we were to stand together and legalise then my advice would be to jump through the legal hoops and all become patients, however like BB said, we might ruin everything that we hold dear.

It's not a vote-winner in the UK, unfortunately. There's very little political motivation to legalise. Even though broad sentiment towards cannabis in the UK is tolerant, it might lose some votes for the Tories - and Starmer doesn't support legalisation. Sadiq Khan's the only one taking an interest.

That might be a good thing. If Sadiq Khan pushes for legalisation/liberalisation in London, we could end up with that happy medium of 'official tolerance'. We all want to be able to smoke openly/socially and have nice places to do so.

The only other impetus behind legalisation is economic. And that's something the current Tory lot might be very open to. Sadly, I think that's how it would happen if it does anytime soon. And then, like @British Bulldog says, the whole scene will get whack-a-moled with corporate hammers.

One of them was 'considered for discussion in Parliament' a while back, but didn't get very far! Most people who use cannabis know where to get their gear and don't feel like petitioning the government, I suppose.

To the OPs question most countries barring Saudi Arabia are fine for a visit just be sure to obey the local customs. Saudi Arabia is full of bigoted hypocrites so I would steer well clear of there. Some notable examples which are quite liberal are Morocco and Turkey. Istanbul and marrakech are good city breaks and there are also loads of resort towns such as Agadir, Bodrum etc. Further afield you could travel to the northern areas of Pakistan where I am from we have the 2nd tallest mountain K2, hash from the Himalayas beautiful food and beautiful people. I think you are confused sir are you for migration or against?
I am talking from first hand experience, I know my dad experienced racism in the 90s and I have experienced it first hand when travelling to more rural parts of the UK. Racists will be racists but I have enough life experience to know not all white people in this country are like that. This is nothing to do with race anyway it’s about British culture and contributing to the society we live in. I have seen myself people come over here, get a council house within 2 months, universal credit, free medical. Add the odd cash in hand job to that and you’re laughing.

We've always had high levels of migration in and out of this country and just to be clear I am more than happy with that, I'm not trying to make some sort of anti-migration point in a weird way.

You sound like you are against migrants being housed, supported by the welfare state, or provided with medical treatment when they're sick. I'd prefer to live in a country that minimises homelessness, poverty, and illness, regardless of the recipient's country of birth. You've painted a picture of migrants 'coming over here', being provided with the bare minimum to integrate into society, and being happy as a result as though it's somehow a bad thing. Would you prefer that they weren't? Do you not think it hinders someone's ability to become a functioning member of society if they're homeless, penniless, and denied medical treatment? How's that going to help with them integrating and contributing to society?

The beef I have with what you're saying about migrants is that it's no different to what your dad will have heard 30 years ago, and probably no different to what you hear directed at yourself when you're out in the sticks. I agree if there is a genuine need for asylum then yes careful support should be provided but also monitored and tapered off when reasonable. The current system can be more profitable than working a 9-5.

I'm sure we're in agreement that we have a crazy economic situation where working 9-5 at minimum wage is often not enough to survive, and I agree that the meagre levels of support that's provided by the welfare state sometimes exceed that. But it's the low wages and high costs that are the problem, the disparities in wealth distribution in the sixth largest economy in the world. It's not the amounts that are received by benefit claimants that causes problems for those in low paid work. Far from it, indeed it makes society worse for everyone to live amongst widespread poverty.

Reducing the support to those in need is not going to help people to be fully functioning members of society, whether they have migrated here recently or can trace their family tree back to the Alfred the Great. You shouldn't blame migrants and benefit claimants for the dire situation the low paid find themselves in in this country these days, you're directing blame downwards rather than upwards where it really lies.

I travelled around SE Asia for a few months and I loved Lombok in Indonesia. We were stopping at a homestead that a Muslim family owned. They don't drink but were more than happy to get alcohol in for us travellers.

Indonesia in general I really enjoyed as well as Malaysia.

I'll vouch for Morocco. You've got to be streetwise of course, but a beautiful country with kind and generous people. You soon tune out the prayer calls.

As an english guy with a house in morocco, I'd definitely vouch for that - I fell in love with the place. Tangiers in the nprth is perfect if you dont want things too hot and youd like to still see alot of europeans, casablanca or marakech if your looking for the arab vibes with old medinas and lots of tourist activities - Fez if you like leather. There are even a few smaller places i like such as chef chawen - the blue city which have some amazing places to see. You could even visit the jabala and see farming as it was hundreds of years ago - youll never meet nicer or more genuine people

On a side note, if you biggas are into your smoke, go to morocco and head to places like al hoceima in the rif mountains - they grow everything up there and would happily sell you a kilo for less than £100 😁

I'd second Indonesia and Malaysia as being extremely friendly, but the friendliest people I've ever met are from travelling in Kyrgyzstan, where everyone I met wanted you to either stay with them or to take you out for dinner and meet all their family and friends! I've also heard great things about Tajikistan!🙏🏼💚

Morocco ... been there 8 times
Food is terrific, rich culture, wonderful people.
As with other places, beware of scammers, but the public, wow.
I've travelled a lot in my almost 44 years, Morocco is a must see!

Pakistan is very good country to visit, most travel vloggers has said Pakistan is the most hospitable country out of the 44 countries they visited. Personally I'd travel to northern areas of Pakistan and even go to the area near Afgan border if your wanting fresh pure hash

Definitely would recommend Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkey, Tunisia and Jordan. Malaysia and Indonesia are possibly the friendliest and nicest people I’ve ever met in my life. Also, their food and natural scenery is absolutely top tier. Morocco is a nice place too but I think the others are much better especially for tourism.

Morocco, Egypt, Turkey and Indonesia are all favourites but a real stand out star for me is Uzbekistan - full of history, especially from the Genghis Khan days as the silk road splits in Uzbekistan where you can go up to Russia/Europe or down to Middle East/Africa, as well as being full of really lovely people. I hope to get back there one day...

I spent 3 years in Indonesia and 3 months in the Philippines with frequent travel to Singapore. Indonesia was like my second home, just stay clear of drugs, which you'll most likely only be offered in bali and the neighbouring islands.
If you don't have an international driving license and shouldn't be on the roads, they'll hand you a piece of paper saying you need to pay £50-100. Don't pay it. Before I lived there and was a tourist I was stupid enough to pay it. You should be paying around £5. Locals pay around £2.
In the 3 years I was there, I only felt unsafe twice. One was on a bus and the people were trying to sell me a fake rolex for an amount of money and they were quite adamant I was gonna pay up. Second time I was out in the sticks with my girlfriend on my vespa and a dodgy couple were following us, clocked them quite early and confirmed relatively soon after they were looking into us. We just headed back to the population. Whether we were somewhere we shouldnt have been and peaked interest, ill never know!

Going back to drugs, my apartment was randomly raided for a drugs test. Not shitting you I open the door to a big team of narco agents and a TV news crew. They were doing random drugs tests in the neighbourhood. Literally take me to my toilet, pass me a plastic cup and watches me with my back turned pee in the cup! Can't make the shit up! Fortunately all was good.

I have highlighted a few of my bad experiences however it can't replace the 100s of amazing experiences I gained. The people are friendly, the food is good. Number 1 rule when visiting Asian Street food stalls, go where all the locals go, if you don't follow the rule you'll end up code brown.
Stay safe. Stay wise. Be respectful. Carry as little as possible and follow the laws, you'll be safe in almost any country.
Also the dude at the airport literally asked for an underhand of £15 to let me through the gates. Explained i had overstayed by one day. Saved me a huge amount of time with all the paper work and was a fraction less than what I would have had to pay to their government! The hilarious thing was he was sat on a closed gate and I skipped the busy queue 😂

Be prepared for the constant megaphone blasting prayers. Try to get a room as high and soundproofed as possible;)

Northern Cyprus is good in the summer for a few weeks great food that is inexpensive, for around a tenner you can get a decent 3 couse meal at a nice Chinese for example and really nice backdrops of the sea at most restaurants just don’t upset anyone in the army as they do no fuck about.

I heard a story when I was there about a foreigner who had pissed off one of there neighbours and the neigbour told the army that they had drugs so they got them and held them for 2 days hitting them demanding to know where the stash was buried a proper pistol whipping.

Also be aware if you ever get caught in a Muslim country with narcotics you are on your own no one will risk there reputations to be associated with drugs so no help will be coming anytime soon.

Turkey & dubai are very welcoming to tourists.

If it’s Muslim history and culture you’re after I would say Istanbul (research Ottoman Empire before you go). Also Jordan has lots of history dating back to the time of the crusaders. Do a bit of research on the crusade and salahuddin ayyubi before you go (he’s a bit of a hero amongst our Kurdish brothers).
Egypt has more history about the ancients than Islamic history. Believe it or not Saudi Arabia has very little. Non Muslims are also forbidden to enter Mecca - the holy capital.
Jerusalem would have been a good shout had it not been for the current conflict.

I think the same could be said of any scientists who are researching into a new area - of course the researchers who are looking into a niche/relatively new field are going to be those with personal interest. I don't think it's at any risk of becoming an issue though. Not one psychedelic treatment is anywhere near being approved for human use as a prescribed medication (as far as I'm aware) and the majority of public and scientific opinion is that psychs should be kept illegal and are not a viable treatment option. I think we're seeing the same effects described in that article apply better to media - we as people with a 'special interest' in these products are seeing the news more often, and these news outlets are reporting on it because it's novel and exciting and 'counterculture'.
But I think yes, skepticism is to be favoured as with literally any new research or use for a compound - we do not have the evidence, we certainly do not have any longitudinal evidence and won't for many many years (decades most likely), and so we should not see these as a 'cure all'. The same can be said for any new trend/gimmick/craze. With that being said, research is promising and despite biases there is a decent amount that seems reliable. It's just something we'll have to keep any eye on for the future; it is far from being a confirmed treatment or something that will end up being rescribed to people in a few years.

Yep, I buy almost exclusively from Hashishin and have done since 2019 and have tried just about most of his hashes which are on a different level to much of the hash currently being marketed as ‘Afghan’ ‘Lebanese’ or ‘Moroccan’ on here.
He also had varieties like Egyptian which is pretty rare to come across in the U.K. all artisanal and unique. What I’m seeing on here from quite a few vendors doesn’t look anything like the authentic land race strains I’ve had.

I totally feel what you're saying about flavor and quality of smoke. Things have slipped there now everyone is chasing thc percentages... And the thing is, that stuff doesn't get even me stoned in the same way. Not as 'rounded'. It's 'strong' but something is missing.

This is why I like live resin sometimes. It's not madly strong but it tastes amazing. Again, though, something is often missing.

We are absolutely on the same page there buddy, these newer strains are a very 'sharp' buzz for me and as you say, not nearly as well rounded or satisfying. It's the CBD and these other newly discovered cannaboids that are missing in my opinion. I have found the oily black Moroccan that hashishin sometimes has is the best for me. Or if I'm in India then good charas for sure. Most of the Moroccan stuff on here with the cartoon stamps is all made from the newer stuff...smells and acts 'skunky'.. no good for me. There are exceptions here tho, The king hassan stuff is land race and one or two others..but the yellow pollens are still not as full bodied buzz as I get from the thick black oily hash

Thumbs up all the way. In my opinion drying and curing hash can be more complicated than flower. Keeping the oils and avoiding mould is a balancing in the first few weeks. Can spot it a mile away now.

I have a big place in my heart for people like Frenchy Cannoli and those guys that paved the way for good quality, artisan hash at home. It's crazy what you can do these days; full melt dabbable hashes, Charas temple balls, iceolator blonde hash... I love my concentrates but a good hash will have a fuller, deeper stone to it.

Noteworthy that you said proper Charas isn't soft at all at a cool room temp? My stuff is seeming very hard and takes a lot of working but can then sausage. Rattles about in the container. Shatters if you slice it from cold.

Thanks for teaching me about Frenchie canoli...I was not familiar before and now I have a lot of hash porn to look at online lol. I'm not a grower so don't have much experience on the making side. Regarding the room temp comment, I'm refering to UK room temp of course...but a fresh morning in the mountains in India and even the finest first rub, oily hash will be hard until warmednin the hand. The mould story I can add some anecdotes...never ever a problem with Moroccan..or not the traditional stuff anyway..no matter how i store it...do doubt down to the dry sift technique...but iterestingly I got a selection sample pack from a seller here strainsburys with a bunch of stamps like m&m, bitcoin, London poundcake, medical and they ALL went mouldy after a couple of weeks. Makes me think they are all isolator/bubble hash, which as you say is tricky to keep the mould at bay. It's the same problem with charas...because if the moisture content. Me and a bunch of friends always used to have a mission at the end of each season on the beach in South India... how to store our stashes of fine charas until next season (over the monsoon) also that it won't go mouldy. Firstly wrapping it absolutely air tight in cling film (but not Indian that puts a chemical taste into the hash)..sonwebused to bring our own. The mamas up in the Himalaya are really experts at wrapping the hash so that there is no air at all...I've seen it a lot. Anyway, next we would get stainless steel circular containers with a lid, fill them with rice flakes (not rice as I found out one season some vole mites that were microscopic eggs in the grain grew up and made a big mush to suprize me when i came back to open it 6 months later. So rice flakes (it's a processed rice Indian breakfast thing) to absorb moisture, hash inside, then lid on then seal around the edges with epoxy to create a mega seal and keep all moisture out. We would smash it open with a hammer on our return each new winter :)
