I got some hash today which is especially nice because it's fresh. Quite of lot of the hash I've had from LB isn't. That got me wondering about peoples' views on 'aged' hash.

I used to be in the hash business a very long time ago and one of things I learned was that hash has a 'half-life' of around six months. Six month old hash loses 50% of its potency, Year old loses 75% etc. etc.

A few years back my dealer tried to sell me year old hash with a lot of blah about it improving with age. This is bollocks as far as I'm concerned.

What do people think? Am I right or have I got it wrong all these years?

I think the aging is a bit of an Indian tradition (or urban myth) where they allegedly say that hash less than a year old will cause madness🤷‍♂️

I think stored correctly it’s good for a year to 18 months.

Trouble is- how do you know how old it is when you get it? 🤔

Well said but honestly, cool dark cupboard sealed in air tight jars (kilners etc) and in grease paper, and it wont matter if it's a bit old, as long as the vendor stored it the same way lol

Exactly! And hash means so many things now. Back in the day between harvest, drying, preparation and transit I doubt I'd of smoked anything younger than 6 months.

From my experience and reading others stories, its safe to say you may lose about 20-30% THC (which will degrade to CBN) over the course of a year. This is if it's not stored properly.

If vacuum sealed, stored away from heat and light, it can last years without losing much THC. Some farmers even cold cure their hash/bubble hash

You are half right.

If stored incorrectly, THC does degrade to CBN but it's long process.

If you store it correctly, it can last 5 years without losing much potency.

The bit about your guy saying 1 year old is better is bollocks yeah. Maybe if he kept it in a freezer vac sealed for year, it cured extra, but if not it's just gonna have more CBN

This article whilst about flower does mention the resin :

"Fairbairn and others (6) reported that carefully prepared herbal or resin cannabis products are reasonably stable for one to two years if stored in the dark at room temperature."

I certainly don't think aging is an added benefit, feels a bit like tesco selling you added water for succulence in ya bacon :P Mind you, i've never let any lay about for that long

Good storage helps but yes definitely deteriorates with age. 'Hashish' by Clarke reckons it can loss up to 40% potency in the fist year.

I went in to a whismith's today (what I used to call it when I was a kid) and asked for my normal brand of fags which they didn't have and so asked for a price check on 20 B&H Silver. I almost shat on my dildo when she came out with £22.50, i didn't buy them but I will be religiously sticking to Supermarkets from now on who are generally the best prices for tobacco, some brands like mine as low as 12:50, for now! 🤔

Lt Columbo is a bit of a cheap skate with his dodgy cigars. I smoke Embassy, or i use it's tobacco I should say. This country is going to pot with prices like that. I wonder if there's a market on LB for wholesale/duty free fags?

Embassy 😂 never even heard of that one lol there is a big market for duty free fags but not on lb .. not sure if they will even allow it..

They came in red or blue packets back in the day, and for some reason we favoured the blue, but only if they'd run out of gold B&H. Both brands came with little points cards in that you could collect to trade in for things, like 10 million points for a child's paddling pool. Obviously no-one did that, and the card in a pack of 10 would make 2 decent roaches, and the card in a pack of 20 probably 3. £16ish for 20 gold B&H around my way in most shops, but I haven't checked WHSmith, who are clearly taking the piss. Not even sure why they still exist as a chain considering how many brands have gone under, and yet they still do a roaring trade in snacks, magazines and BluRay. Has to be a front for something.

Was it Superkings that started selling packs of 21 or 22? If anyone had Mayfairs they'd be mocked for presumably stealing their gran's cigs. Silently judging the Lambert & Butler offered up as a joint sacrifice when needing tobacco to skin up...
