If you're using coinbase it's virtually impossible

say you need £150, if you buy £160, it says it will be something like a £4.99 fee, so you'd think "oh i'll have plenty of headroom there, even some spare change" but you won't, once you buy it you'll likely end up with something like £149 in your coinbase balance after they take the purchase fee and whatever the hidden fees are, i've been getting absolutely rinsed by this for 5 years every week

use mempool.space to check the current network fees to send BTC and try to work out a total from there once you've factored in the expected and unexpected fees

i've gotten fairly good at it, usually end up purchasing a couple quid more than i need

so for you, you need £128, safest bet would be to buy £138, minus all the endless fees you'll probably end up with around £131 once it's all said and done which leaves enough to cover network fees to purchase on here!

The spread is likely the 'hidden fee' you are referring to Hesh.

You should learn yourself how to use either Coinbase Advanced or Kraken Pro. You'll cut your purchase fees way down that way, plus you won't be paying extra in network fees on Coinbase because you actually have custody of your coins and your transactions aren't batched together with hundreds of others incurring higher network fees.

To answer OP;

If you use standard Kraken instant buy to buy your Bitcoin you'll pay:

$164 for your order and postage
0.00003BTC ($3.03 currently) set withdrawal fee
$3-6ish BTC purchase fee

So around $175-$180 to be safe.

I use revolut as my only bank account. no need for a physical bank account,because i have a mastercard with them,all my earnings are paid into revolut,and did not need any photo id.I buy my bitcoins from them and then transfer them to my exodus wallet.fees are really low also :)

I’ve done same w/ Coinbase - bought bc & sent straight to vendor. I do have a Coinomi wallet but haven’t used in ages. Only concern is I haven’t submitted a wallet address in case of dispute/refund. Yeah paxful is good to buy from just buy from sellers with lots of good reviews as some want more money than you sent nd agreed upon but it is overall good

Holy cow - bitcoin is effing complicated. It's not just setting it up, it's all the fees that get added here and there. Wallet, exchange, verification - and then when you take the leap you discover a UK credit card purchase gets you a 24 hour cooling off. WTAF?
I guess it's just the first transaction but even so.
There should be a really simple guide here, step by step and list a few wallets and a few exchanges. So many searches to figure it out and going round in circles.
I was gonna recommend the thing to my mates but they won't have the patience.

well I did it - all through Exodus, dunno if rates good or not but whatevs. Avoid Paybis, bank accepted it but Paybis rejected every time

Btw. Ive been using the plain blockchain wallet for two years without any issues. Least hassle wallet Ive seen! And since I wont upgrade my OS on my mac its one of the few I can actually use. Which bitcoin site to use

Exchanges still cant beat the price of btc I get on localbitcoinsdotcom. The only hassle is I need to order btc and go to my local national financial agency and pay a money transfer slip with cash. Thats not a prob tho, cause the teller is a very nice looking woman :P And btc is in my wallet in 3-6 hours after I pay.

Can I ask, does 'local national financial agency' roughly translate to the Union in the West or something similar?

It will depend on which country you are in. Look for the bank that is managing the most business in your region...

Seen this on one of the other platforms not sure if 100% correct but I would be wary of coinbase they are very intrusive closed my account a few months ago. They give details to HRMC depending on whether you’ve spent over the threshold limit.

Yes it’s for everyone, it’s because Bitcoin fees are through the roof at the mo and they are trying to negate the effects. They peaked Tues and seem to be dropping but not yet close to what everyone is used to - I expect it will be several days at least until they remove the restrictions

Miners set their fees so that they charge whatever they want for the fastest speed. Transactions like ours are at the bottom of the pool. Imagine what someone trading $50m is prepared to pay for speed?

People sending half a BTC are paying $2k in fees. I can't be the only one that currently watches the blockchain in real time? Mempool.space is a great site. There was one wallet that has had trillions pumped through it. Probably best not to dig any deeper into that one...

Aye. Im watching Mempool today completely fucked off. After the last fee spike and the time it took to sort out, im not throwing anymore money into this stressful bs waiting game. For the short term solution open a bank account with revolut. If you don't need any goods for a while, long term go chase or monzo.

Revolut will let you buy goods today short term cos they'll give you a virtual card once opened and that can take minutes but fees aren't so good but chase offer 1% cashback on spending for a whole year or monzo is good but you'll be waiting days for your card.

Make sure your vendor has been on recently as a few don't seem to bother with Society.
I've made multiple buys without issue, everything the same.
Went with GT's Falcon on my last order.

Hi mate, once an items been sent off its out of our hands and in Royal Mail's, we don't even know your postcode so until you respond to my message asking for it I can't help you. It isn't our fault for how long royal mail takes, but I understand you may be upset but delays are possible this time of year, I've had Special Deliveries far up north take up to 3 days to get there. Hopefully this issue will solve itself but if not please keep me up to date via messages :)

User has provided a postcode and address I know we didn't post to, after a thorough look of all 18 Reference Numbers for orders from the 3rd of October we have come to the conclusion we have never in fact posted to the postcode / address provided. We do believe this user may be trying to gain a free reship out of deceit so we have referred them to the borgs to dispute this purchase. "Not happy" about the time its taking to arrive, (If it was delayed, which it isn't it still wouldn't be our fault...) this is giving the ring of the classic customer service scam to us...
