It happens due to couple of reasons..

Worst case to best case:
-Fake Stamp

-Overweight/OverSize package
(different stamps different weight/size limits)

-Under paid postage (didn’t use enough or correct stamp.. for example using 1st class normal stamp on a large letter)

-No Stamp/Damaged Stamp

All info about sizes and weights for stamps etc online easy to find..

99/100 times the vendors fault in my opinion

Stamps are all well and good but they hold value to a certain weight/size then you need more, as the classification of letters and parcels changes. That's just from experience with legit post

Could well be - the last 2 i've had to pick up have had stamps on them - the new ones with the coding on them - suppose someone is making and selling fake ones somewhere and they are scanning as fake - just a dog having to pay another £2.50. Generally royal mail are pretty good overall only ever had 1 item not actually turn up - just half an envelope in a, 'we're sorry your post was damaged plastic bag.'

Yeah mate on the whole this is not their problem. Personally don't like stamps on my packs I know its opsec for some but I've had very professional looking 1st class land consistently, postage paid by sender in most cases

Are the parcels all from the same vendor?

It's possible the postage has been paid for, but it's not the correct postage for the parcel. It could be overweight or different size to what was paid for

I ordered NDD 24 from a vendor on Thursday, didn't arrive until Tuesday, paid $11 for nothing. On the other hand, I ordered Tracked Delivery from another vendor, who advises 1-3 days for delivery. Arrived on Sunday, was $6. Basically, manage expectations as a vendor, if you're product isn't being processed and out for 24hrs, at least advise the next day isn't always next day.

Then again, I've ordered loads from Terpy, who does free 1st Class, never fails, always arrives next day. Basically, pot luck with Royal Mail.

Did you miss the cut off?….sometimes vendors are under pressure to hit them too. RM’s hit rate for achieving NDD is also slipping.
Have you asked the vendor to check the tracking?
Things would be a lot more peaceful around here if we all just allowed a good few days, but I get it that if you pay for next day you want it next day…

You're not wrong about RM slipping. I was reading yesterday that they are looking at fines as they have a target of 98% of NDD packages to arrive on time and they're currently at around 78%.

Just to add to polly some do NDD but after day of purchase. I know 🤷‍♂️ but it’s caught me out before

Fair enough, that should have got to you by today.
I don’t bother with NDD (but I will pay for tracked). Where it’s included for free I can’t remember the last time it actually arrived the next day, and my Postie is brilliant.
NDD should probably be called ASAP.. but not if you paid a big premium for the service.

I’ve not used NDD for a couple of weeks but this does happen quite often. If it was sent Monday evening it may not have been picked up until the next day, I would give it another day but contact the vendor to let them know.
