I used coinbase yesterday and it cost around £8 on a £100 send to transaxe. Try sending outside of US trading hours.

This is true, I bought £120 worth of crypto on Coinbase.... Get Coinbase pro to waiver the buying fee and order from 7pm ISH to 9pm ISH and the transfer fee was £8

There is another way to avoid buyer fee - transfer straight from bank into coinbase account. Buy USDC (as it is free) and use the free trade option to convert into bitcoin.

When fees are high wait until the weekend and order late in the morning (11am onwards) to ensure US BTC trading is at a minimum.
The fees we are seeing is due to the back ending of minting of tonnes of new ordinals and the much talked about return to the bull market soon after. There is alot of money going into crypto atm.
The sooner the Solana Based stablecoin option comes to LB the better for everybody.

There isn't much to tell atm. There was a thread recently where it was announced (or claimed) that there are personnel working on this change. I don't have the thread saved, sorry.
We know very little else in regards to progress, timescale and whatnot.
I expect that we are probably looking in the medium term rather than short to have this option.
The current congestion will rise and fall a little in the coming months but the market is set to make new ceilings in the 2nd half of 2024 after the halving - October could see even bigger BTC fees than we have seen for the last 8 weeks.
I am hoping that we have an alternative option for payment by this point, but anybody's guess is as good as anybody esles at the moment.

It's down to the time rather than the method. Sunday 11am I paid only $12 for a $55 order, good I thought. Monday 5pm its was $32 fees. Savage.
