what's needed is a compact between generations, like that which exists in families. in a decentralized body preservation scheme each family can store it's own and we have our custodial solution.

but technology cycles never remain in decentralized, fragmented phases for long. centralization is inevitable in any system just as another wave of de-consolidation follows that.

something meta to families is required. what we call religious organizations have always fitted this bill: a common belief shared horizontally across living people as well as vertically amongst the dead and unborn.
